Hi all,

Just wondered how you all clean the engine bay - Jet wash or By hand..

Mine could do with a good clean so any tips would be appreciated..

Best thing to do is visit Detailing World http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/ every bit of cleaning advise is there for you, mind you there's a hell of a lot of options but some of the results are staggering have a look at Gallery Section and look at the studio & showroom sections after you've looked at the technical section where you'll find engine bay/chassis cleaning

Cheers Steve, is there a section on just giving it a little clean as wanted to have a go at it tomorrow - Just checked the beer fridge in the garage and there's not enough left to read all that tonight..

there's shed loads of info on there TBH from full blown detailing to spot cleaning have a browse it'll be worth it

I would do it by hand wouldnt take the risk jet washing

To be fair, it is pretty clean at the moment just seems to be a coating of dust no real grime, was gonna just give it a bit of a blast...

Worst case is it don't start after and I call out the breakdown I suppose....

Just did mine.
Double plastic bags over the DCIs and alternator.
Used that 'gunk' degreaser from halfords. Sprayed it over the bay...agitated with a brush then jet washed off.
While wet i used autoglym vinyl and rubber. Sprayed on and brushed around then left to dry
One thing to note the engine cover lets water in around the oil cap so next time i'll plug around there with a plastic bag

nothing wrong with jet wash.
engine bays since 2000 are waterproof, just dont focus the jet too long on a specific place. Keep it moving.

Cover induction cones if you have them, and your alternator.

335is are slightly different as you have DCI.
On my previous, E90 I always used one car wash who used to clean it with certain chemicals and jet wash. And we always washed it with the engine running. So if there is a problem, you know there and then!

As Josh said, make sure that you do not focus on sensitive parts such as sensors, alternator, pulleys etc.

Or more safer approach is what gaza did.

This thread inspired me to do a quick engine bay clean

Only used some halfords bay cleaner, karcher jet wash and paper towels but happy with the results

You can jet wash, carefully, but I prefer to use the garden hose as less chance of that getting into any delicate bits. I use an engine degreaser and a paint brush to agitate than rinse. Leaf blower to get rid of any water and then 303 on an applicator pad to all the surfaces I can get to.

This was an 11 year old C Class that had never been cleaned.
Engine cleaner £5 from ECO for 5 litres and an old paint brush.

Took around 10 mins.....
