squeak/squawk

07 335i 6spd

This just started happening yesterday afternoon, its hard to capture on video as it happens whilst driving and i dont know if it will be loud enough for a clip.

During acceleration, after starting the car after it has sat for a few hours, through gears 1-4, mainly 1 and 2, i get a squeak, squawk sound from the engine/transmission. the more gas given, the higher/faster the sound gets. when i drop to neutral, as to roll to a red light, the sound stops. when i put it back into gear and begin to accelerate the sound returns. after driving for about 15 minutes, the sound goes away completely in any gear and is as normal on the road.

any input would be most welcome.

thanks

-Stig

Check the belts? Sounds to me like a slipping drive belt.

at first that was my thought, but in previous experience with belt issues on other cars, the sound didnt completely go away when i shifted to neutral and coasted. they wouldnt generally calm down until i was completely stopped. and the belt noise generally persisted beyond 10-15 minutes worth of driving. it happened nearly all the time, excluding a bad idler pulley, which only did it when the car stopped, and started rolling for a few secs, but only in first when u first hit the gas.

The only other thing I can think of right now is water pump going bad and or fan clutch failure?

I'm sorry I couldn't do more, haha.

Best of luck brother.

Chipmunks probably need to be fed.
Just kidding. Try to record it anyway. Sometimes the mic will pick up more than you think...

Is this what it sounds like? I've been hearing a similar sound as the one in the video.

that sounds more brake related. and hes not really getting up in rpms. hes staying pretty low. mine only does it in gear and gets louder as i rev up. i noticed video is also an autobox. but to me, that sounded more brake or possibly dealing with wheels or axle, than what i am hearing
