I heard a whistle and had a rough idle after driving on fwy about a month ago. Bmw said they didn't notice and gave me car back after $150 analysis. I asked them about vanos recall I got mailed to me. They said they didn't have the parts. I brought it in a few days ago while the whistle and rough idle was happening realtime.

They assumed it was valve cover so they planned to fix it saying they would help us out and do it for cheap. When they took cover off they noticed a crack in the Vanos and they replaced it also. They showed that they took off 95% of charges plus the recall for free and we paid $250 total. Not sure how all of a sudden they got the parts for the Vanos...

Did driving with a cracked vanos possibly cause valve cover issue? Do you think other problems may occur after that? Lastly did I get robbed out of $250? My 2011 328i has 60k on it.

My dealer still doesn't have the parts, they say they haven't even done a single recall yet because of parts. Something tells me they won't ever get them...
