calling all guys with 335's

now I've been doing a bit of research and haven't came out with a good estimate. Im 19 and blessed to have a very good serving job to the point where I'm making 750+ a week. I've owned a 325 for a year, bought it on my own and fell in love with the bimmer family. BUT i test drove a 335 and it makes me hate the slug so I'm going to be purchasing a 335. i need your guys honest opinions on how much estimated per year is shelled out for failure rates for parts? i know that theres not a specific number but i would like to know because I'm steering away from the warranty because i would like to mod. I'm looking at 09+ with 40k miles. also i would like to add i plan on stashing $200 a month in the savings acc for repairs only, think i should be good? PLEASE CHIME IN!

$200 a month just for repairs I think you should be fine. Your expensive fixes in higher miles are typically the turbos and water pump, with the fuel pump being a random failure that can creep whenever. I don't recall the warranty on the HPFP, but you might still be under warranty for that part. Find a good independent BMW mechanic in your area, it will save you a lot of money and grief in the future. Also take any car you're serious about for an evaluation by a 3rd party mechanic, it could save you even more grief and headaches.

Great cars, and life is short- if you feel comfortable spending the money then go ahead. There is something to be said though about saving that kind of money when you're young, even for a few years, and then getting something nuttier in the future. Im 22 and hoping to pick up an R35 GTR for my 24th birthday!

To be quiet honest, it varies. The only issues I've had was a misfire. Then again, I'm not tuned or anything like some of these other guys. I have a co worker who has his car well over 100k and the only issue he has had was a fuel pump change at 40k. Still on original turbos (and he's also not tuned).

I've read others who have had a lot of trouble. Some without any. I'm sure more trouble only comes as the mileage goes up.

Hit or miss really, I think you should be good though, only thing you should really worry about at low miles is the occasional misfire, waterpump/tstat, and HPFP all under the $1000 mark at a good indy.

Make sure your taking insurance payments into account. Mine was a little higher than I was expecting when I switched from a 325 to 335. 2 door ups the insurance a few more dollars a month as well.

Liberty Mutual has a discount for BMW owners. Look at switching. They saved me $700/yr over my old insurance company (insuring two cars, and house with $2 million umbrella). And no, I'm not affiliated or otherwise interested party in this company.

I have never had an issue with my car; just oil, gas and tires.

+1

some people have absolute luck on their side. Some people have nothing but problems.

Definitely make sure you factor oil and fuel cost/mileage into your budget if your 325 isn't using 93. I missed a few hundred bucks a month in my calculation by forgetting that.

Oh to be 19 again and with that kind of money at that age. You've got a great plan there young feller. Just don't let the girlfriend (if you have one) eat up all of your savings.

It definitely not as bad some people make it to be.
i am heavily tuned with e70 and more than 100k miles no problems at all ( the regular repairs you do with any car that has high mileage).
Start by putting 100$ on the side every month, once you get over 600$ then start saving 50$ instead of 100$.
The major problems (turbo and Fuel pump) are covered under warranty so no need to worry about it.

My '07 has averaged about $150/month in repairs in the 3 or so years I have owned it, so yeah, I think your $200 set aside per month is a very good strategy. Find a good Indy that you trust and that other people have recommended.
