I had been driving about 10mi back and forth moving some stuff and the car suddenly spits out an "active steering defective".

It was about 90 degrees and I was sitting at a light on a pretty steep incline with the front bumper pointed down and the AC on level 3. I hear the ding and the AC sputters and starts blowing warm air while the steering wheel became firm and hard to turn. I restarted the car and everything has been fine.

anybody have any thoughts on this?

Did you have your battery terimal cable recall done. It was know to cause these problems?

original battery but did have the recall done.

i believe the car turned off after the ding but i was stopped at a light. i first noticed the air go from cold to warm and then realized the steering was very stiff. So, i put the car in park and restarted her with no further issues or warning lights (2 days and counting).


wondering if maybe the steep angle caused something to fail?

Well if the car did turn off your steering would get stiff from lack of power. I'd say look at engine problem or electrical first.
