Angry I wish I had a garage

Hey guys, just a little rant.. I always have these damn kids on my block playing on the street without adult supervision. They're constantly harassing people, whether it be passerby's or cars trying to go down the block. I am so fed up with them. This isn't the first time I've caught them, last time they scratched my driver side fender and also hit my hood with a football. Sorry if I'm overreacting but I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't appreciate people messing around with their cars.

Just call the cops and talk to their parents. I would put a sign up video recording on the side.

You will look like an ass if you report them for touching your car. I don't suppose you can put in a gate... All those people around my car would get to me.

You're in a no win situation. If the parents don't currently monitor them, they aren't going to suddenly have an epiphany over night and become responsible Parents.

I would suggest you pull down the video, if it's a common area. Recording children never works out well for the videographer.

I too would be greatly pissed if kids were running around and denting my car so I can't blame you. I know my friend he parks downtown and he installed a Viper Alarm (I think that's the name) and it basically alarms proximity and gives a warning to people near the car, and if they don't go away than a loud alarm sounds.

I'm in the same boat man, I live downtown Portland in a rather unsavory industrial area. Street parking only. The area is chock full of street kids and transients. Had my Xterra broken into twice, and have had my 335 fucked with a couple times as well. Thankfully from my apartment balcony (not technically a balcony, but a wide enough ledge to hang out on if you aren't stupid/drunk) I have great visibility of the street parking. Now the thing has two 1080P cameras aimed at it 24 hours a day. I wouldn't expect Portland PD to do anything about it if there was an incident, but at least I'll have proof when I file an insurance claim, which happens more than I'd like to admit. Yay for $0 glass deductibles and $100 comp deductibles.

I'd be pretty annoyed too. Why don't you show the video to the local police and see if they can help you out? Or maybe invest in a car cover?

There really isn't anything you can do, besides move away or park somewhere else. I did some pretty asshole-ish things when I was younger, and almost all the suggestions people have made so far in this thread would have only encouraged me to do more.

Also, from the video you posted, the kids don't seem to be specifically doing anything malicious towards your car. Whoever you ask to try to make them stop will only look at you like you're crazy.

Welcome to NYC. Move to Florida. Lots of garages and no state income tax.

Could also get an alarm with a motion sensor. It'll go off whenever they touch it so you can give them hell and get them away from it.

It may be time to buy a tuff-ass beater and wait for the day you leave the city.

City life - goes with the territory. Alarms are great, until they aren't.

Call the police, that kid was trying to open your door and steal things. Show the police the video, and let the kids know you have a camera on your vehicle.

I know there's nothing you can do but just watch & scratch your head. Long time ago, when I still have my beautifully modified TSX parked in alley. Some teen neighbor likes to fly their skateboards, I guess one accidentally lost his balance & elbowed my fender. Cost me $450 to fix the dent.

Damn that sucks, id go with an ultra sensitive alarm system so if it has a slight tap it starts going off..

It seems some of us were never young. Give the kids a break. It looks like the kids are playing hide & seek. I did not notice they were trying to harm the car.

Seems like one of the kids was looking through the window. Maybe he likes cars.
a) If you are washing your car, ask him if he would like to help dry the car. Hand him a microfiber towel (remember when you helped your dad when you were a kid)
b) Just ask them if they can play way from the car to avoid scratching it.

Best thing you can do is get them on your side. You get a lot more by being nice than being a jerk.
