Have you ever been pulled over for drunk driving?

Just curious.

I had a similar incident like yours at New York City (Getting off Queensborough bridge) I knew I wasn't drunk or anything but was very scared. It was a good lesson for me though

not me personally, but i know people that have, and it's not worth it at all... you get in a shitload of trouble, have to pay fines up the ass, go to jail, and it puts your entire career in jeapordy.

here in Boston they set you up to get fucked over though - bars close here at 2am, yet for some reason, the T stops running at 1am (at the latest, some lines stop at 12pm). makes no sense to me.

I got pulled over once for the same thing, plus I had my windows down (apparently a tip off that you may be drunk). It was late on a Friday evening and I had to blow a breathalyzer. Thankfully I had not had any drinks and got to go on my way.

The other time was a drinking checkpoint near my house. Again it was on a Friday and I had been to a birthday party but did not drink alcohol. I always believe the cop smelled the 'bar' on my clothes (cigarette smoke etc) and that is why I had to do a field sobriety test.

Don't drink and drive people. The following happened to a family that lives about 5 miles from me here in MD. Read the whole thing. It is horrific: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,319165,00.html The non drunk father will wake up to find he has lost his wife, two of his children and two of his stepchildren because of some a-hole that wanted a couple of beers.

Driving overly cautious? That is not something they can legally pull you over for... Otherwise they would have to pull everyone over who went the speed limit.

Apparently the cops here have better stuff to do?

People may flame me for this, but I think the laws should be restructured. There is a HUGE difference for someone who is barely over the legal limit, and someone who can barely stand up. The latter is the danger on the road, not the former. I don't think they should be in the same category. There should be entirely different punishments and fines.

No. Then more people will drive "buzzed" which is nearly as bad as the ones who are utterly trashed. The penalties need to be no mercy for either of them. It's very simple, don't drink if you have to drive.

Well, the reason i'm asking is because I went to the Giants game on Saturday (12/30/07) and had a few beers before and during the game. As I came home 4-5 hours later with food in my system, I hard accelerated my friend's neightborhood and a cop pulled me over for accelerating extremely hard. Told me to get out of the car and administered a finger test going back and forth between my eyes, but luckily I passed. I sat back in the car and he let me go with the condition I slow down.

I remember saying "Jesus Christ" really loud as I got out of the car, heart pounding, and he yelled at me saying what does God have to do with this, and so I apologized.

LIFE LESSON! I'm never ever driving within the same night as drinking, even if its a few hours earlier and i'm completely sober. Its just not worth it.

But that's the point. It seems that the fatal accidents you hear about are not from buzzed people, but the trashed people who are driving on the wrong side of the road, or passing out at the wheel, and stuff like that. Two totally different dangers.

In my opinion I disagree, having one beer and getting a fine for it isn't the same thing as being buzzed after having 3-4 beers. Trashed would be defined as 6-7 beers for someone and not being able to stand up correctly.

Nevertheless, just f*ck*ing use a designated driver or dont drink.

I agree that "drunk" driving kills, but I'm not so sure that "buzzed" driving kills.

40% of men will get arrested for a DUI/DWI by the time the reach their 40's....and that's just the ones that get caught.

Everyone assumes that those who get arrested for drunk driving are the ones swerving all over the roads and crashing into other cars/people/things. However that's not the case.

The law says your drunk if you blow a .08, even if your not.

Well knowing the media as we all do... why would expect you hear about any of the other ones? Media only loves the interesting news. A fender bender involving someone who is only "buzzed" isn't interesting, so it isn't news. However, to the people involved it is a bit more of a problem.

Also, something I learned from talking to a police friend is that cops look for 3 signs of a drunk driver:

1. Windows down.
2. Lights on inside the car.
3. Driving unusually slow.

Drinking and driving's moronic. I mean, unless it's been like no more than 2-3 beers, or you are god at holding your liquor, and you only have to drive a very very short distance then it's coo. But still.

No, I haven't been caught drunk. But I have driven a few blocks to my friend's house from this girl's house which were in the same neighborhood after having like 2 beers and a glass of wine.
