How to negotiate a deal on a E90 330i
I am 17 years old and my car was bought for me, so I know nothing about negotiating a deal. I am becoming increasingly interested in exactly how it is that cars are purchased... Does anyone know of anywhere that you can go to learn about buying cars? I am interested in exactly how it is that people gain certain pieces of knowledge like national monthly sales charts and invoice prices and how it is that they use these tools to there advantage. I would also like to better understand exactly what goes into negotiating a deal. Is there an order of operations to this kind of thing, where do you ask for discounts first? Off the MSRP? or is it more of a point by point kind of thing? I have a lot of questions and I am interested in the whole process from start to finish but does anyone know of any good resources on this type of thing?

Please ask your parents if they would kindly adopt me. Thanks.
The info is all out there. Google is your friend. Invoice prices are on Edmunds, Cars.com and three gazillion other sites. Message boards like this one will give you the current trends regarding negotiated prices, lease rates, residuals etc. It's all out there.

I'm always surprised when I read posts like yours that your parents bought you a Bimmer. My parents, who certainly had the means to buy me a car, made me work for mine.
After working for about 6 months, my dad asked what I had saved (which was about $3k) and he matched my savings for a total of $6k. I plunked down my money and bought myself a 10 year old 1982 Nissan 200SX ~ even had some money left over for a Pioneer SuperTuner III Stereo. Okay... I'm seriously dating myself here. I suppose I'll next mention the Def Leppard cassettes.... ugh... dammit. Moral to this story: Consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky! What I would've done for a BMW back then... But yes, Edmunds.com has all the info you'd need on negotiating a car. |
