d40 is 6.x mp right? the XTi is 10.x mp. Does that really make a difference on picture quality? i know it does if you want to inlarge a picture poster size.. but if i'm jsut doing 4x6, does it really ?

I have Nikon D40x with the higher MP. Dont worry about how much MP it has unless your going to be printing out huge poster sized images. I got the lens that came with the kit, and I am a beginner, and is good lens to start on.

Nikon D40 is a great beginner camera IMO. A camera with 6 megapixels (i.e. d40) allows for high quality prints as big as 13x19. There are great deals on the web for these.
There are tons of articles as to the benefits and disadvantages of XTi Vs D40's I have owned both Canon and Nikon and my personal pref is Nikon due to the ease of user interface. The best advice is to go to a real camera store and pick up both cameras and see how they feel to you. Some people will love the Canon and some will love the Nikon. Find out which one you are. You will be happy with either one, but you will be happiest with the one that fits your hands better. Just my $.02 |

It doesn't matter what body you have (talking about lower end DLSR's with crop bodies), at the end of the day, its all about the glass.
D40, XTI, there all pretty much the same thing. Dont look soo much at the megapixels unless you plan on blowing up huge images, it comes down to what feels right in your hands. I have small hands and although i love the Sony Alpha, i was just too big and i couldnt imagine shooting with that thing everyday. Go to any camera store, pick up both cameras, and see which one is better FOR YOU, not for everyone else. |
