Soul-searching Trip Destinations
Planning on doing a solo trip for personal development and was wondering if you guys have any recommendations for destinations?
Right now I'm thinking Japan for 2 weeks (staying at a temple on Mount Koya for a few nights) and then maybe a week or so in Vietnam. |

Depends if you want peaceful (Japan) or somewhere a little rougher where you will probably have more gratitude for your life, ie. shantytown of India or South Africa. What do you want out of it?

I think I would like somewhere peaceful and quiet to think and reflect. I am not looking to go to India or Africa for the "poverty" and 3rd world experience. I don't know if I would enjoy that.
I'm trying to reflect and see what I want to do (career and in life). I have been thinking about it but perhaps over thinking is not helping. Hence I'm looking to get away and have it come naturally. |

OP, I don't recommend Vietnam for your purposes then. Maybe Bali? (Ubud)

I was curious about Bali but I couldn't help but think that it's a place for women (from the movie eat pray and love). Vietnam is because I was from there and thought perhaps I should visit family.

Haha, men go to Bali too.
Ah, ok, you really need to go to Vietnam then! Cambodia is nice too. Hmmm Thailand too. Oh god, the list is endless

Wyoming.
I've seen a lot on this planet, but that one touched me greatly. I fell in love with the place so hard I doubt I will ever forget the feelings it brought up in me.

I'm sure it is nice and I would love to visit it some day. I'm just not sure if it's a place I would enjoy on a soul searching trip though.

This is a very private matter, so to each its a different one. I have seen so much good I this world and also beauty, now only the darkest hells speak to me as does loneliness.

Perhaps for some people. While I have enjoyed my trips to Vegas, I don't really care for it. I'm not into the party scene all that much so Vegas doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather spend the money sightseeing elsewhere than gambling and drinking in Vegas. To each his own, of course.

How about a Tibetan monastery in Kathmandu or head over to Peru and ponder over the wonder that is Machu Picchu. There is an amazing Hare Krishna Temple in Durban, South Africa you might like. Gorkhi-Terelj National Park in Mongolia might have your soul or the Hoia-Baciu forest in Romania. I would suggest the Aokigahara Forest as well but I'm afraid that one might keep your soul.

Machu Picchu +1000.
I almost made it before I met my current wife and had a family. I had visions of the peaks under a full moon, even had a deposit on the trip for a full-moon period. Do you have any dreams/visions of places? |
