Ebay question

So Im selling something on ebay. Ive been on ebay for over 10 yrs.

So far on this item, Ive gotten 3 people who say they want the item within the next 30-60 mins and are willing to pick it up locally. They all include their phone numbers though and have a decent amount of feedback.

Is this a new scam? I dont feel comfortable selling something to someone so they can pick it up.

what item is it? and how would they know if they're local? can't you just put that your in the United States for location?

Its a cell phone. I think everyone puts in where they are from in terms of state and country.

well, i had a friend do a local pick-up before. some people are honest, too.

but you should try and safeguard yourself as well. if they want to do local pickup, try your best to make them pay on paypal, and then meet them at a VERY public location, if the item is movable. If they want to pay cash on location, then I would probably suggest against this, and just see what you get on the auction.

ya be careful...Ive sold something in person before-a broken laptop for $350 and the guy was an honest guy, I brought a couple friends with me that stayed a little further away just to make sure the guy wasnt going to try to kill me or something...and go to a public place like a bank or police station or something with some type of security personnel.

Done try any of that stuff alex. just let the item sell as usual. the rest of that crap is SCAMS!

i got fucked on e-bay once by clicking some e-mail link i got from someone who wanted to buy something early. next thing i knew they ha my credit card and a whole bunch of other shit.

HyperM3, common ebay buyers...

I was selling my bro's 2004 Daytona 600 motorcycle on ebay, a few days later I get a few emails that they want to see the bike in person and test drive it.

I made it clear that I'm not ending the ebay listing unless it's sold at my asking price and it's paid for before the listing ends.

One of them came over with a pickup truck with his dad from out of state, talked to them and had a look at their drivers license and let them take it out for a test drive on the local street provided one of them stays here and if it's crashed or damaged, it's theirs automatically at the price I'm asking, and any trouble with the law is their problem since the bike reg isn't current and no insurance on it. They took that risk and the test drive went good.
They brought the bike on spot in cash and put it in their pickup truck.

Just be firm and any excuses they pull won't be tolerated...I'm talking about payment for it be in cash or certified check and it must be picked up before the listing ends because you the seller have the right to withdraw or terminate the listing.

As for the cell phone thing, get the $$$ first via paypal or check, when it clears. Ship the item.

Think about it, a cell phone is small and can be hidden or grabbed. They will think you won't really hunt them down for the trouble of a cell phone.

^ good points. They all gave me cell phone numbers too in case I wanted to call them and see if there really was a human behind the bidding. I still didnt feel comfortable with it.

Its not a cheap phone either so I honestly would probably go hunt them down. Then again, I wouldnt have gone to the deal unprotected either.

Always meet at a starbucks never have them come pick it up from home.. I have done several local ebay pick ups and as long as they pay cash and meet me at the starbucks of my choice its fine, never had an issue.
