Although it looks likes Steve Hill drives into Jim Booth, I believe that he wanted to drive the ideal racing line. If I am not mistaken (as I am not a pro), is the "slowest" driver supposed to stay on the ideal racing line whilst the "faster" car should try to overtake outside the ideal racing line. In this case one could argue about where the "ideal racing line" is.

Jesus Christ, I hope the guy in the Grey car was blacked flagged for that. He deliberately took out the Red car and could have easily killed the other driver.

Blind spot?! This happens a lot on races. Mirrors are so small and drivers can easily loose track of other drivers. The black car should have not move into the red car's line!!!! What was his reason for doing it? Obviously he was interviewed and questioned, right? Some one knows the reason?

Guys, I'm not a race car driver, however, when I'm driving, my situational awareness is always on. Even much more during any spirited driving. So, for the black Ferrari to say he didn't see the "red" car or he was following the "line", is complete BS. He knew he was there and was about to pass him.
IMO, everyone is responsible for their integrity. Not sure what the outcome of any charges, but, it looks to me Steve Hill will have to deal with guilty conscious for the rest of his life.

I started to reply and realized I don't know enough about racing rules to comment. The one think I can say is the red car got smacked. Glad nobody got hurt.

Consensus on YouTube: Black car was at fault. He didn't have to take the line he took for the kink to set up for the turn, so he was actually trying to block the red car. On the other hand, the red driver used bad judgment although by getting his nose up he had the ROW.
I don't know enough about racing to pass judgment. Looked like a stupid move to me by both drivers.

When I googled the accident there was an article with a diagram of the Race America track. This diagram had a red arrow before turn 1. I thought that arrow represented the location of the accident. See kids, even if you edit or delete a post its too late..... |

The red car is to blame. It's the responsibility of the overtaking car to do it safely. I don't know the rules of this particular series, but typically racing room is required only once you've presented yourself a certain length up the side of the car you're overtaking. In this case, the red car's nose hasn't even cleared the rear wheel. Additionally, the car in front has the right to make one move to defend position. It's hard to say if the driver of the black car was defending or driving the ideal line... regardless, the driver of the red car should have backed out. Really glad he's okay though - scary crash.

Watch his hands on the wheel. His input turning into the kink is very smooth, the only jerky action is in recovery after impact. If he was deliberately turning into the red car his hands would have shown this.

If one looks in the rearview mirror one can see the red car approaching then disappearing at 3:02 yet his hands are smooth until 3:03 (impact). |

The red car clearly had claimed position and the black car should have taken the inside line through the kink. I suspect he did not see the red car but it is still the black car's fault. |

Yea its really hard to say. My initial inclination was to say the dark car was at fault. However I know that track well and that is a pretty good "normal" line through there and the video clearly shows that he was smooth and it doesn't seem deliberately moved over to stop a pass. Additionally T5 is coming up there which is an extremely tight left hander where those cars will probably come down to maybe 60mph. So attempting to make a pass going at 150 just before the elevation change into T5 is pretty crazy. No way he would have been able to get back track right to take T5 correctly and leave with much exit speed anyways. Now that I think about it I would actually say I think it's more the red cars fault.
