So pissed off. We are moving today aswell.
They drilled the lock and smashed the window.
Had the car collected by insurance company and taken away for repair.
More money as the police were not interested and as they can't recover the costs it goes down as an at fault claim.
Trying not to let it ruin my big day bit it's just my bloody luck.
My issue is should the alarm have gone off? It's right outside a police officers door and nobody heard anything.
They also prized off the cover under the steering rack I presume to disable the immobiliser.
Surely the alarm should have activated??

Exact same thing happended to me mate back in june on my sister graduation - tried so hard to smile in pics but just couldn't.

Drilled the lock, lowered all the windows, took a copy of the key from obd port, nicked my old nike hoodie and trainers, few old garage cd's plus my tesco clubcard!

Cost me £300 for them to reset the steering lock sensor as it was forced, new lock and cover sprayed.

Same thing no alarm went off and no one heard a thing. Would suggest steering lock and obd relocation. Unfortuantely its very common in london and essex to the point where police turned up 3 days later for a statement!

I do seem to notice that there aren't many 335's about. That makes me think that they could be in high demand. You have to be so careful. I went with a steering lock. Just for show. Feel stupid putting it on when the car's on my drive but this crap happens. That one guy had his garage door torn down in an attempt to get his car. It's posted on E90 AFAIR.

Yes bud 320i. Guess more common so if stripped parts more of a need as opposed to 335i.

Yes they probably pinch the 320i for the mass market quick sale of parts and 335i for quick full car resale abroad.

Pal your best bet is to get a viper/clifford alarm, tracker, disklok, relocate obd, this will delay/help also prevent

I had a Viper alarm fitted a few months ago for this very reason. Has warn-away which chirps loudly if someone stands at the window for more than 1 second. Sucks that we have to use it, I miss using the sleek BMW fob to lock/unlock the car, but needs must unfortunately

I've got a 330I. Turns out a 320d down the road got done aswell so obviously being targeted.
To be fair insurance sorted it out pretty quick and an hour after ringing them it was on a low loader being taken away for repair.
Just hope it doesn't boost my premium too much.

The oem alarm is pathetic. It sounds like a microwave meal and to avoid running down the battery it times out after a while but not sure after how many minutes. So if it was busy where it was parked or if there were Diesel engines idling near by it may not have been the loudest of chirps heard. Secondly, there is an alarm black spot. If the window is struck in the correct place then the alarm won't sound. Thirdly, you should remove your locks if you can. I brought a ready painted lock cover from bimmian parts. Took all of 15 minutes to remove the lock and refit all trim using a DIY guide off here.

They usually target areas in one go and move on so I wouldn't be surprised if the guy a few streets behind has had issues too.
The crims sound pretty thick if they tried to access anything under the steering cowling. All the goodies are where the obd port is. Glad they did not get to take it away although it's still soul destroying. If you want to protect it and make their life miserable get a full viper package alarm. Enjoy your new place and hopefully it's safer!

This sounds like the classic key coding technique.

Make it look like a smash and grab / attempted theft, while coding a key and then when you have had it repaired they come back and use the key to get in and drive away :-(

I'm going to put in a secret switch rather than a viper alarm.

Maybe a trip to the stealer / diag specialist to see if a new key has been registered and delete it ???

Gutted for you for sure. Definitely get some additional protection for the car as they might just have coded a key so be wary. Hopefully moving a good distance away so as to be away from these t*ssers.

Dam that's a c**t. Sorry to hear this mate, these things always happen at the worst times. I'll be honest the alarms are shit on these, i have never been able to set mine off. Good job the pr*cks didn't take it though.

Yeah definitely. Just makes you wonder if its worth having a nice motor.
Had a golf r before and they are being targeted like no tomorrow now but never had any problems.
Just the luck of the draw I think.
Just hope it doesnt put the premium up too much.
Got protected no claims so hopefully won't be too much of a killer next year.

So just read that it's obviously the obd connector they've been messing with as the cover was on the floor.
What can I do now if they've cloned my key?
Luckily we've moved now so they won't be able to just walk upto it and jump in but what else can I do.
How do I check it's had the security update without going to bmw?
Going to buy a disklok tomorrow.

Just go to BMW and explain they should be able to see if their additional keys coded, they shud be able to remove it ,

Because they have smashed the window and removed parts to do it so they normally wait for you to get it fixed on insurance then come and take a complete car ready to be driven away mate

Yeah that's my worry so what do I do now to stop it? I bet bmw will charge an absolute fortune to recode the car so the cloned key doesnt work.
Surely they would have just driven away with it though as noone disturbed them.
The only saving grace is they done it on the day we moved so the car will not be going back to that address anymore.
We haven't moved that far away though so it's still a worry.
Ah well that's what gap is for I guess.
Certainly put me off getting another bmw.
Not sure what the other marque's are like (audi,Mercedes) etc but I'm sure they have the same issues.
I'm getting rid of it soon for an suv and was looking at x5s and ml but think il just get something like a kia sportage or similar with a bit less desirability
