It's all body work except the mirror. Mirror, hood, windshield and front quarter panel are the biggest costs. Front bumper looks like it can be repainted.

Not sure it will be written off the same way since it's comprehensive, not collision.

It won't be hurt on resale as bad as a collision. More similar to a hail storm.

That's painful to see even in a picture.
Your heart must have sank when you walked out to see that.

They need to pay for the repairs PLUS the loss in depreciation for resale. You shouldn't lose any value of the vehicle

That won't be totaled. But this is the perfect opportunity to upgrade to:
M3 mirrors
M3 rep or other aftermarket hood
M sport or M3 replica front bumper cover
M3 replica fenders
LCI headlights

The car is getting the work anyway, why not upgrade?

Going to assume he's going to want to save as much money as possible. The LCI conversion would be counter productive.

+1. If you wanted to do any new bumpers etc, nows the time. Just pay any cost difference vs stock.

Take it to BMW for a repair estimate.
Have contractors insurance write a check for that amount.
Take it to a body shop for the actual repair.
Pocket the extra or upgrade the parts.

Im a contractor; our insurance has deep pockets.

Nix that M3 hood and you're set.

If i was in your shoes i would make absolutely sure that every single little scratch on every part of the car is fixed this includes the smallest hairline scratch on each wheel, every piece of glass, roof, trunk etc etc... the more damage you can "blame" on this the higher the chance they will total out the car.

Also dealership will not always give you the highest estimates since they just 3rd party the work out to local body shops anyway. I would def go to THE ABSOLUTE BEST body shops in the area for quotes and then present the HIGHEST estimate to their adjuster. For quotes ensure they are quoting you for OEM only parts not cheap aftermarket parts that some body shops would try to install.

If for some reason they do not total out the car keep in mind their insurance MUST pay for all repair at the shop of your choice not their choice.

Total it? Seriously, you are dreaming, get things repaired that weren't damaged by the accident? It doesn't work like that - LOL. Only the parts of the car that were damaged by the incident will be repaired. The damage is purely cosmetic. Hood, fender, windshield, headlight, and bumper, and refurb the door. Maybe $5K at a real good body shop. I doubt the incident will show on CarFax since it will be covered by the contractor's business insurance.

OP, in June I had one of my cars repaired at a BMW dealership body shop ($11K worth of damage to the right rear corner - it got hit hard too) and you can't even tell a repair was made to the car; it was perfect in fit, alignment and finish. Get a certified BMW repair facility (have the dealership recommend it) if the car has warranty left, it is even more important to go certified. Plus the industry standard now is the body repairs are guaranteed for life of the car usually. There will be some diminished value you can claim, but do this after the repair is completed - depending on the state laws you have up to two years to make a diminished value claim. I made my claim a month after I got the car back. However, you are not dealing with an auto insurance company, but rather business insurance, so the process for getting the repair and diminished value claims may be a bit different.

Good luck. Life happens. Not a big deal.

I don't know about the totaling out part but from the pic of where dirt landed the bricks very well could be responsible for every scratch on the car... Imagine calling to work, wife etc with this one... "Yeah not gonna make it, ton of bricks fell on the car". At least you'll have pretty much a grand new front end.
