Feeling meh about my 335i

I don't know what happend I was really liking the car but since its winter and I dont need A/C I have been driving my E30 and its been a hoot to drive its nowhere near as fast in anyway as the 335i but it gets me excited about driving
took the 335i for a drive yesterday and drove it aggressively and I felt like going to sleep if it was a steptronic I would have

I was thinking about getting a JB4 but I don't drive the car and wish it had more power and I'd be stuck with map 1 because 91 octane

Is the car just too isolated from the driver that after driving a raw car like the E30 you feel like your getting in a S class Mercedes?

Comparing my AP2 S2000 to my 335i is nearly the same thing. The BMW is faster, but not as fast feeling. The S2K I can drive around and the slow-car-fast just makes the car feel funner to drive.

I do love how the 335i just effortlessly accelerates, but it's almost too balanced.

Even map1 changes everything about the car!

Stock is boring man.

91 gas + JB4 was a huge difference for me... Do you have access to e85?

You need to tune the car too at least moderately to unleash your 335i's true potential. When I first got mine, it felt "Meh" to a certain also because it was just a bone stock car. After I went almost full bolt on at this point, I hear my turbos screaming when I am just slow boating the car out of a parking lot at 1k rpms, its crazy lol. When I get on it I get the whole tire squeal along with being pushed into the back of my seat. I contemplated doing the diverter valve filter mod for more turbo "whoosh" sound but my turbos are loud enough already thanks to all my mods. Also I understand everyone still prefers JB4 every now and again, but try out MHD for the less than half the price.

Go Fully bolt on and then lets hear how you feel about this car

problem with all these fast car is that you can not truly enjoy it without getting in trouble. Where can you unleash the power of a 400 + HP car in the street... I have a hard enough time keeping my 328 doing 20 or more over the speed limit and that is not even driving it really hard.

I remember having more fun in the civic SI ( 160 hp) on the road , being able to red line the car and going trough the gears and still staying somewhat in the legal zone.

I had a similar feeling driving the mustang GT , it was fast , but the fun only lasted so little as I was well over the speed limit , I was already on the impound speed limit... You almost have to drive the car slow to keep it in the speed limit , while other slow cars can truly be push to the max on the street

These cars are meant to be enjoy on the track for the most part

The most fun I ve ever had on a car was my friends mazda miata , anyone who has ever been on one knows what I mean

1) Start with the JB4 on Map 5 from Mike @ n54tuning
2) Get an ER Chargepipe and ER Competition FMIC from Mike @ n54tuning
3) If you really want to squeeze out more power, get an AR DP with DP fix from Mike @ n54tuning

you will not look back at your e30... but rather you will be looking for e85 gas pumps

Going to post a possibly unpopular opinion on this forum, but suggest you try a 135i. My E90 just feels so stable and boring. The 135i feels like it has this little thought in the back of its PCM that it wants to try and kill me. And get it with a real manual. Much more engaging and fun. I feel it really is the modern successor to the E30 M3. You can really make it dance in capable hands.

Man I can not wait for winter to end....

Obviously you can't unleash all of a 400+hp cars potential on the street, but its not about its top speed, or speeding by a ton over the speed limit. Its about getting to the speed limit (or a little over) very quickly. Like getting on the freeway and going from 30 to 80 in just seconds... every time i have a new passenger in my car they are blown away about how fast it is. Its about down shifting to 4th and blowing the *ssholes doors off who's in the fast lane doing 55mph. I literally can't help but have a smile on my face everytime I watch my boost gauge hit 17-18psi. Try and meet up with a member in your area with a FBO car and take a ride in it, then you'll understand lol

I'm fine with my 328i on DS mode. If I push my foot all the way down on the gas pedal, I get somewhat blown back, so that is enough for me.

I can only imagine what a 335i with a JB4 and other mods would do for me if I'm content with a Stock 328i haha

I did exactly that because I became bored of my 335i coupe. 135i isn't as fun as I'd thought so its getting coilovers and very wide rubber come spring. I think next winter I'll be moving into an E92 M3.

Ya, it needs a few little tweeks from the factory, like the M3 RSFB's and more camber in the front. (M3 arms and camber plates). Now I can rotate the car at will. Wider rubber just makes it faster, not more funner.

Switched from a Z4 to this. I totally feel the same way. Sure it is faster and even has some newer features but not anywhere near as fun to drive.

I'll trade some steering quickness and feel for a lot more grip and neutrality.. not to mention faster autox times.

I test drove both a N55 & N54 135i, and they felt like they were twitchier. The rear end just felt really unstable with non-runflats. I imagine they would be great with the M3 rear subframe brushings and front control arms.
The issue I see is the front tires. If they made a 1M style front fender kit so you could run 255's square then I would have chosen the 135i, but it just seemed like it needed a lot more to really shine bright.

With the above mods, I am running 245/265, same as 1M. Why run square on a RWD car?

I used to have a 600hp 1200 lb ft duramax that did 12.7 in the 1/4 so 300 ft lbs is just ok

Mainly so you can rotate tires and reduces understeer compared to staggered. The ability to rotate & work the car through the corner also becomes much easier when you have the same amount of grip in the front as the rear, in a square set up.
It's common for a lot of BMW owners at track days and club races end up using square wheel and tire set ups (unless they have very high power levels) because of the control and ability to manipulate the car in certain ways are much higher when there is greater front end grip. It really comes down to everyone's different preferences with their car, but with the shorter wheelbase compared to the 3 series it does make a noticeable difference.
