Question about coolant level sensor on bottom of coolant expansion tank

I have a small leak on my coolant expansion tank and it seems to be coming from the level sensor. How exactly is the fitting attached to the tank? I'm not talking about the electrical connection to the sensor but the fitting itself. I can rotate it 45 degrees. Is it possible it's just loose and needed tightening?

The coolant sensor itself sits in a dry "well" type area and a magnet on the float inside the tank actuates the reed switch in the sensor if the level is too low. The tightness of the sensor fitting will not have any affect how well the tank is sealed. If there's a leak in that area it is the plastic tank itself and not the sensor.

Interesting. Did not know that. Guess I'll need a new expansion tank. I just read my cpo warranty and it seems the cooling system is covered. Off to the dealer I go again with my $50 deductible!

Thx!

So, removing the sensor would not/should not cause any coolant to leak, correct.

Get the car all warmed up and you'll probably find the expansion tank will have a tiny spray leak somewhere.

Expansion tank is $50 and sensor is $16 so your deductible is a wash for parts. Now labor ?Love to know how much they charge when it's out of their pocket vs yours.
