Its pretty cold here in Montreal, around 5F and this morning my car had the yellow car sign on the lift appear on my dashboard and the time got erased also. Any idea what it might be??

Its because the battery got low. I can bet money the yellow car on the lift symbol is because of "increased battery discharge. Either keep it on a tender or time for a new battery if it keeps happening.

As the temps drop... the battery becomes weaker even tho it is the same strong battery at a warmer temp. It's best to get your car battery changed sooner (rather than later). The OEM battery seems to have a 7 year life cycle. |

If you drive it short distances everyday and let it sit for too long not being driven, I'm not impressed. Also, have you registered your new battery in the car every time you replaced it? May make a difference in its lifespan. Cheers |

Mine is a 2008, and it only has 99k km's on it, and original battery (mostly all short trips, commute to work is 10-15 min). I'd suspect that the battery was swapped an not re-coded.
The PCM adjusts the battery charging as the battery slowly dies. If you don't reset it with a new battery, it basically kills the new one since it's not charging properly. |

Yeah i mainly do short trips. The batter was changed 3-4 years ago by the dealer. Is there a warranty? Can i not go to the dealer and have it coded somewhere else?

You can code it yourself with a 10 dollar USB OBD2 cable and a laptop, or buy a OBD 2 adapter for Carly for BMW (iPhone/android app). Cheers! |

Then you have to make an "in-app purchase" (15 CAD I believe) for the battery registration module. They sell the OBD adapter on their website (mycarly.com and eBay) for another 50... The app for your computer can be found at the coding section (sub forum here) I'll let you know which one when I get to my computer. Cheers |
