This is really sad! Poor M3

I mentioned this car in another post, but had a chance to take a picture this evening. It's an M3 that has been booted in the parking garage of my local airport (Portland Jetport) for almost four months. And it was there for MANY months before they booted it, as the red sticker on the windshield says it was booted due to the registration / insurance (!?) being expired more than 90 days - that was on 10/5/15.

I am pretty sure it has been there since the beginning of summer - it's very noticeable as it is parked right where you enter the garage on the first floor. Car has Louisiana plates, and looks to be in excellent condition. 8-9 months at $12/day. Ouch. Makes you wonder what the heck caused someone to abandon a car that is worth real money? Also amazed that the airport has not had it dragged away yet.

Wish I could get the 219m's off the car haha. Reminds me of this guy somewhere in Europe (Switzerland I believe) that has an abandoned koenigsegg sitting in the garage of his apartment complex.

Most kids under 27, can't even truly afford these cars. It's not surprising at all.

Plus that car is ugly as all hell....

Maybe they died in a airplane crash...

I would guess stolen. But I'm surprised it hasn't been towed and impound lot attempted to contract the registered owner. I thought there were nationwide registration databases now.

I wonder how long before they are allowed to auction it off.

Time to make up stories. I'm guessing a drug mule got caught in Mexico and is in a Mexican prison serving his time.

Oh hell yes, story time! It could be that Lil Wayne was visiting home and wanted something low key to roll around in so he bought this from someone cash at a stop light then abandoned it in the airport garage before getting on his private jet to his next show.

Seems pretty unlikely to be stolen, as I am sure the Portland Police Dept is well aware of the car. They actually park their patrol cars about 50' from it. This is an International Airport (albeit a small one) after all, not just some local parking garage downtown. It would take them about 30 seconds to run the plate and find out, and our local police are a pretty professional bunch.

I wonder about the auction thing too.

I think it is entirely possible that something bad happened to the owner and nobody knows where the car is. Though I would certainly think that the airport would have sent notices to the registered address. Then again, Louisiana is kind of a "unique" state to say the least, it is certainly possible that they don't participate in the inter-state databases.

Out of curiosity, why would you think the owner was a kid under 27, why 27 in particular, and what about a Sparkling Gray Metallic on black M3 coupe makes it "ugly as all hell"? It's a little dusty, a boring color, and my Nexus 5 is hardly the world's greatest camera, but that last one is a bit baffling.

It's a long way from being the prettiest car BMW ever made, but ugly as hell? Really?

Yeah, most E90 coupes to me, are not pleasing to my eyes. The color really kills it. Probably the last choice M I would own.

I profile..... That's what I do. The owner was within 3 years of 27........

Lots of resources on this site. Maybe if you get the VIN number or tag numbers, we may be able to track the name down.

Hmmm, stories... let's see.

1) Stolen. It's possible the police haven't run the plates/vin. Just because the airport parking authority booted it doesn't mean the police are involved. Maybe no one has stopped to think, "we should run the plates, this seems fishy."

2) Owner is dead or otherwise incapacitated, and his family doesn't know where the car is, or doesn't even know he owns the car.

3) The owner flew somewhere thinking it would be a short trip, but circumstances changed (got ill, or a family member got ill and needed care) that has delayed the owner's return (or just decided to stay in Florida for awhile). Owner just thinks the car will still be there when he returns.

4) Owner left the country and doesn't plan on returning, and has lots of money and doesn't care about the car.

5) Owner was murdered and the murderer took the car and dumped it there.

My mom has a friend that pretty much abandoned a house like that. She just on a whim will travel to another state or country and stay for months without any plans. I hear that she just walked out of her house (a really nice house) and hasn't been back in years since she's just living it up and visiting family and friends elsewhere. I think she may have a car still there too. Obviously she has lots of money.

As was mentioned, let's get vin and plate numbers and see what we can find out. I like a good mystery.

You know, I heard that Kanye's mom actually did something like that. She bought a new Mercedes shortly before a trip, drove the car to the airport for a trip then forgot where she had parked it when she got back... so she just bought another one.

It's not underground. And it is barely out of the elements, as the open end of the parking garage is directly behind where I am standing. If the wind is blowing the right way when we get some decent snow, that car will get buried. And you can't rent spaces at an AIRPORT. Well, I guess technically you are renting it for $12 day.

It's not a weird color, it's plain old metallic gray. The purple is a combination of the sodium lights in the garage and my phone's camera in low-light. It was about 30 minutes before sunset, with the sun setting directly behind me.

My guess is the next time they close this section of the garage for maintenance this car will finally get hauled away. I really am surprised it has sat there this long - the parking at this airport completely fills up on a regular basis, in fact the reason I was able to take the picture is I had to circle for 30 minutes to get a space at all, and happened to end up parked just beyond it.
