This is really sad! Poor M3
I mentioned this car in another post, but had a chance to take a picture this evening. It's an M3 that has been booted in the parking garage of my local airport (Portland Jetport) for almost four months. And it was there for MANY months before they booted it, as the red sticker on the windshield says it was booted due to the registration / insurance (!?) being expired more than 90 days - that was on 10/5/15.
I am pretty sure it has been there since the beginning of summer - it's very noticeable as it is parked right where you enter the garage on the first floor. Car has Louisiana plates, and looks to be in excellent condition. 8-9 months at $12/day. Ouch. Makes you wonder what the heck caused someone to abandon a car that is worth real money? Also amazed that the airport has not had it dragged away yet.

Maybe they died in a airplane crash...

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I would guess stolen. But I'm surprised it hasn't been towed and impound lot attempted to contract the registered owner. I thought there were nationwide registration databases now.
I wonder how long before they are allowed to auction it off. Time to make up stories. I'm guessing a drug mule got caught in Mexico and is in a Mexican prison serving his time. |

I wonder about the auction thing too. I think it is entirely possible that something bad happened to the owner and nobody knows where the car is. Though I would certainly think that the airport would have sent notices to the registered address. Then again, Louisiana is kind of a "unique" state to say the least, it is certainly possible that they don't participate in the inter-state databases.

It's a long way from being the prettiest car BMW ever made, but ugly as hell? Really?

Hmmm, stories... let's see.
1) Stolen. It's possible the police haven't run the plates/vin. Just because the airport parking authority booted it doesn't mean the police are involved. Maybe no one has stopped to think, "we should run the plates, this seems fishy." 2) Owner is dead or otherwise incapacitated, and his family doesn't know where the car is, or doesn't even know he owns the car. 3) The owner flew somewhere thinking it would be a short trip, but circumstances changed (got ill, or a family member got ill and needed care) that has delayed the owner's return (or just decided to stay in Florida for awhile). Owner just thinks the car will still be there when he returns. 4) Owner left the country and doesn't plan on returning, and has lots of money and doesn't care about the car. 5) Owner was murdered and the murderer took the car and dumped it there. My mom has a friend that pretty much abandoned a house like that. She just on a whim will travel to another state or country and stay for months without any plans. I hear that she just walked out of her house (a really nice house) and hasn't been back in years since she's just living it up and visiting family and friends elsewhere. I think she may have a car still there too. Obviously she has lots of money. As was mentioned, let's get vin and plate numbers and see what we can find out. I like a good mystery. |

You know, I heard that Kanye's mom actually did something like that. She bought a new Mercedes shortly before a trip, drove the car to the airport for a trip then forgot where she had parked it when she got back... so she just bought another one.

It's not a weird color, it's plain old metallic gray. The purple is a combination of the sodium lights in the garage and my phone's camera in low-light. It was about 30 minutes before sunset, with the sun setting directly behind me. My guess is the next time they close this section of the garage for maintenance this car will finally get hauled away. I really am surprised it has sat there this long - the parking at this airport completely fills up on a regular basis, in fact the reason I was able to take the picture is I had to circle for 30 minutes to get a space at all, and happened to end up parked just beyond it.
