Weird slight steering vibration

Hey guys. Just to clear this up: it is not a steering wheel shake. I fixed that problem with new tires and replacing a caliper which was sticking. This is a different problem where my steering wheel has a very slight vibration when it starts to move. As soon as I'm at a stop it goes away. Then as soon as my car starts to move I will feel it in the steering wheel. It's a weird thing. I'm pretty positive it isn't coming from any suspension or wheel/tire item since I got all new parts when figuring out the shake. Also when I put the cat in neutral and rev it , it stays still. Not sure, anyone know?

Did you replace the rotors when you did the caliper? A stuck caliper can overheat and warp a rotor. That would normally be more noticeable during braking.

Replaced rotors and calipers. And it meaning my car. Even if I don't give it gas and just roll the vibration will appear. It's slight but any enthusiast would notice it

Wash your wheels. You have snow/ice in them and it messes their balancing.

Cheers.

It's been going on for a little bit now, before the snow

So the steering wheel itself shakes when the car moves.

Does the vibration vary with speed?
Does the vibration go away if you are rolling (say 10 mph) and you shift to neutral?
No x-drive, correct?

Also, did it go away completely after the new tires and brakes, and then come back after some time?

If not, it could just be a bad balance by the tire guy.

Maybe control arm bushings. There's a few suspension components that could cause these symptoms. Depending on your mileage, it may be time for a suspension refresh. As these cars approach 100k, you can definitely feel things loosening up.

Yeah it went away. I'm thinking maybe balance issue. Or engine mounts? When speeds go up it seems to get worse

Definitely run by the installer and have them check the balance. You may have just lost a stick-on balancing weight.

Check wheel balancing? Tire pressure?
Check for bent rim? Flat spots on tires?
Check wheel alignment/suspension?
Check wheel bearings?

If you feel it while idling, did you check to see if the steering rack is well bolted on?

I have not. Would that cause issues like this?

Yes I believe so.
They are bolted on the chassis and also have an "adjustment" that can make it tighter by just turning a bolt...

I had a slight vibration in the steering wheel that went away when the rear wheel bearings were replaced. Of coarse, they were a screaming banshee by then. You can only turn your radio up so loud before you need to replace!

My car was doing that. I turned out to be the dual-mass flywheel. You can read up on the issue on Bav Auto's website.
