Why BMW instead of Audi?

Hey guys!

Im working on a research project and generally trying to gather information about the luxury car segment. Figured this forum could be a source of valuable information, so if you don't mind, please make a post answering the following questions:

1. Why did you choose BMW over Audi?
2. Name 2 features you wish your current car had at the time of purchase.
3. Overall do you like your experience with your dealer?
4. What are you thinking will be your next car purchase?

Thanks!

1) I wanted rear wheel drive
2) I wish it'd come with an ipod interface and a limited slip differential
3) Yeah, my dealer was good. No problems with them. Every BMWdealer i've been to EXCEPT my dealer has been awful though.
4) Buying a GTR in the spring

1. Test drove an Audi when shopping for my 328i and hated it. Steering had the feel of a video game (i.e. none) and it had CVT which was awful

2. Air conditioned seats. Front camera.

3. I feel that it could have been better if he had more knowledge of individual orders, but was a good guy and got me the car I wanted.

4. Depends what is out in 3 years time, probably another M4.

1; Modern Audis are almost all FWD and Sh17.
2; They mount their engines so far forwards, they almost push out the headlights.
3; Except for the R8, they are just tarted up VAG barges
4: The end.

1) I wanted a RWD sports car, but I also have an Audi for my family SUV because it offered better fit/finish and reliability at my price point. Just depends on your needs.
2) 1 - a retractable hardtop; 2 - BMW halo DRLs
3) I don't do business at my dealer
4) Full-size pickup

3. Overall do you like your experience with your dealer? Bought used but my current dealer damaged my other BMW recently
4. What are you thinking will be your next car purchase? Atm, I don't really know what else gives me the same desire as the M3 did aside from the GT3...

You really don't know Audis do you? The Quattro system is a permanent AWD system with a longitudinal mounted engine and anywhere from 40f/60r to 20f/80r split. Ive had an Audi in the past and it did handle very well, the understeer is manageable if you properly balance the weight into a corner, it all depends on the driver. I did manage to get it sideways in rain as well and it is a fantastic feeling when the quattro shoves you into corners in rain and snow which adds to the fun factor. The car is also very solid, quality is top notch minus a few issues Ive had with brake noise. I would recommend certain Audi's over certain BMWs and vice versa. Really depends on the price point.

1)In the past, it was primarily driving dynamics and performance.

2)Ventilated seats and LSD.

3)I do most of my stuff locally or non-BMW stores, but my experience with local dealers has been only average.

4)My next car for me will most likely an E90 M3 or new Chevy SS Sedan.

1) RWD and no manual on the Audi I was looking at (S3). Also wanted a coupe
2) LSD and air-conditioned seats
3) I had a great experience setting up European Delivery with a dealer about 40 minutes from me. I haven't had much experience with my local dealer since getting the car
4) Porsche Cayman S or 911, unless one practical car in the family (my wife's) isn't enough! (no kids yet but will hopefully have some by the time I'm ready for my next car)

1. S5 was about 10k more than a comparable 335i
2. Adaptive Cruise and LSD
3. I have 0.0 experience with the local BMW dealers and intend to continue that trend
4. 2nd Gen CTS-V Coupe 6MT

1. Why did you choose BMW over Audi?
RWD.
2. Name 2 features you wish your current car had at the time of purchase.
An oil dipstick and a real key instead of a remote.
3. Overall do you like your experience with your dealer?
Nope. When the warranty expires, I'll be glad to go back to my independent garage.
4. What are you thinking will be your next car purchase?
Not sure, but it'll be RWD.

I've actually owned an e92 335i, Audi S4, and now an F80 M3

1. Honestly, BMW's lease better =p But having driven both, the e9x had such a better drive road connection than any car I've owned. The newer F80/F82 is a little muted

2. Hydraulic Steering, Better sounding exhaust/engine ?

3. Khoi from Long beach was AMAZIng to deal with, every car experience should be like this. Unfortunately he no longer works there.

4. Probably some kind of Porsche.

I have an Audi as well... NOT fun to drive, which is why I bought an F80. Pure driving pleasure!
1. RWD, Manual Transmission, 4 doors for kids, and far better for track use.
2. Roof rack mounting bolts, and a dip stick.
3. Good dealer experience.
4. Ariel Atom v8 500, Lotus Exige 360, Extra 330LX

1. Why did you choose BMW over Audi?
-I wanted a Hardtop Convertible w/ Manual Trans. and Audi's are overpriced(leasing) and underpowered.

Honestly I would've been happy with a 435 conv w/ manual but they don't make it, so went M4.

2. Name 2 features you wish your current car had at the time of purchase.
-A/C seats(esp w/ conv), Better standard color options.

3. Overall do you like your experience with your dealer?
-I use a leasing company, yes very happy with them.

4. What are you thinking will be your next car purchase?
-Just bought the M4 so cant say in another 3 years.

1. Why did you choose BMW over Audi?
Having had a E39 and an E60, my natural choice was BMW. Don't see Audi as a luxury car maker, more a reworked VAG. didn't want a car this time round, and fancied a 4x4

2. Name 2 features you wish your current car had at the time of purchase.
Variable Damper Control, rear parking camera

3. Overall do you like your experience with your dealer?
simply brilliant, gave me a warm fuzzy feeling when i bought the car

4. What are you thinking will be your next car purchase?
pushed the budget,so i don't have to think about that for a very very long time

Yes I do; my dad had three uR Quattros; great cars the bit started going downhill.
Most of their cars are FWD, even their AWD cars are Haldex. Their fast hatches continually disappoint.
My Subaru Outback with proper AWD and proper tyres runs rings around any Audi in poor conditions. It's not cool or trendy but as an all weather machine, it's hard to beat.

a1 quattro, a3 quatro, Q3 quattro and TT quattro use haldex (and have a transversal engine), the rest used torsen (and longitudinal engine), but that is being replaced by clutch operated lsd's.

All longitudinal engine layouts (except r8) have the engine 100% in front of the front axle. For such an engine layout it's best to have an engine that is very short, light and very low (like subaru's have; 4cyl boxer)
