E92 328xi high oil temp

It usually slowly gets to 210 degrees then hover around 200-220 but recently it for close to 240. I was driving normally not fast or anything. On difference is it was highway driving around 70 mph and then it got clogged up on the highway by Chicago (of course, always busy traffic) and it was a lot of stop n go. I didn't really nail it or anything and once we got going back towards home it stayed around 230. Kinda concerned. Should I not be concerned.
Side note: (idk if this makes a diff or not) prior to this, recently I was going to check the coolant and my idiotic self opened the coolant cap when the engine was still warm and it made this hissing noise and I quickly closed it back up. Didn't open it up fully only cracked it open a bit then it made that noise n I quickly closed it tightly. I'm thinking maybe some air got into the coolant system which is causing the engine to slightly overheat. Like I said the middle is 210 degrees and it got up to 240 n I wasn't gunning it or anything...
Any help?

For what it's worth, mine settles in at 250° Fahrenheit during normal driving and has hit 300° Fahrenheit during the latter stages of track days. I'd say what you're experiencing is normal.

Hope you both are using synthetic oil. Real oil begins to break down around 280F.
