Which color for calipers?
Hi,
I'm about to paint my rusty brake calipers so they don't stand out with my new wheels. First I was decided on going with silver. But I also like the gold and blue brakes the F80 has got. Problem is that I have a F30 328i. That means my front brakes are pretty small. And maybe it will look dumb in gold or blue. What do you think? I'm trying to find G2 Caliper Paint kit in Europe, but it is not available anywhere. I can only find it on US eBay, and the freight + import charges are as much as the kit. The only thing available in Europe is the Foliatec Caliper Paint kit which is also 2K, but I've read that the G2 kit is better? Where can I find it? Thank you! |

No idea where to find it but I would go with the blue. I can't see gold as a brake caliber color at all.

I don't think blue matches well with my white F30. Will get my 437M in grey soon and together with gold it will pretty much look like this F30 with M5-wheels:
But I wonder if it will look bad with my smaller 328i calipers. If so I might go with silver. |

I went with G2 in black for my 328 calipers, since they aren't anything terribly special.
Don't skimp on prep, quality of the kit, or number of coats - calipers get beat up! 2 years and 20k miles later mine still look okay, but some of the gloss has degraded. Being black helps with hiding the wear as well, so no one can really tell without taking the wheel off. I did remove the clip and paint it separately. I did G2 blue on my E30, right around the time the F10 M5 came out. Also a nice color, but I didn't want to draw attention to the F30 standard brakes so I kept it low key with the black. |

Had to make another post to add this photo, but wanted to share it since it shows the caliper cleaned up after 1 year of use.

I have a 328i as well and personally would NEVER even consider painting my calipers, let alone choosing gold/blue. If rust or braking performance was an issue, I would upgrade. Then maybe I would consider it. Don't get me wrong, I love the blue and gold brakes but to be perfectly honest, seeing it on a non-m car just comes off poser-ish. You're not fooling anyone. Plus, like a lot of us here, we're working our tails off so that one day we can have the satisfaction of actually having the real blue or gold brakes- that goal is enough for me to wait.
I guess my reasoning goes a bit deeper than pure aesthetics, but do whatever you want to do! |

Will go with Foliatec Silver then. I also think it will look weird with the small brakes. It's sad though as I think it would match my 437M pretty well

With big calipers you can pretty well get away with murder colour wise. For something more standard, silver or grey. Anything else makes your bmw look like a ricer.
I went silver. Now my car looks the way it should have looked when bmw made it. |

I would imagine them saying it was't professionally done so the paint could have went into the pistons, causing it to do blah blah blah.
I've heard from a friend that Acura was going to deny a fix under warranty for the suspension because the aftermarket mufflers changed the weight of the car. I started dying |
