APEX: The Story of the Hypercar - Premiere
Sharing that this officially premiers tomorrow on NBC Sports. I've been waiting for this movie for over a year. Original date got pushed back from late 2015, but the topics/cinematography look amazing.
Release Dates: NBC Sports: 11:00pm ET March 17th, 2016 New York Theater Debut: March 22nd, 2016 Available on iTunes: March 29th, 2016 I always found it a bit odd how unknown Koenigsegg is despite the insane cars they're producing. Couple weeks ago I saw the Chiron trending on Facebook with no mention of the Regera. Is it just how new the brand is and the lower production numbers? |

That's the difference of having the VW marketing powerhouse behind you. There is really no comparison between the two cars, though. They are targeting two completely different crowds. They're building 80 Regeras and everyone who needs to know about the car will know about it. You're not going to see a Regera in a Lil Wayne video...

There is also some built in name recognition from the Bugatti that is easy for the automotive media to latch onto for their rebirth of a historic brand stories. There is a Baltimore radio station that has a segment with John Davis from MotorWeek, and they asked him about the Pagani Huayra that was in the last Transformers movie. You know what he said? That must be a car they made up for the movie!!! This man has spent the last 35 years as an automotive journalist and he said that he had never heard of Pagani! Aside from that, the Koenigsegg cars and the like mostly look like race cars. The Bugattis look like street cars, and are riddled with the creature comforts and features of a luxurious GT car. So guys that are going to drop that kind of money on a car might want it to be more streetable so that they can show it off.

Was this a /Drive-produced piece? I watched and loved it but much of the footage was recycled from other /Drive videos (along with Harris/Spinelli).

A huge portion (if not all) the staff working on it have their hands in /Drive including tangentvector, the production house that shoots for them. I wasn't able to access NBC Sports so am waiting on the iTunes release so I can't say much about the recycled content yet but considering the roster, you're most likely right.
