Traded in 335is for 991 Carrera S

Well, I made the most spontaneous car purchase of my life on Saturday. I stopped by Aston Martin San Diego with my father to grab some local concours tickets, and they had a used 991 Carrera Base stripper up front for sale. It has been a boyhood dream of mine to own a Porsche 911 one day, and I had not yet driven the new 991 generation. I took it for a spin, but the base Carrera motor wasn't sufficient enough to replace the stupid amount of torque in my 335is. I loved how the car looked and handled however, and decided to stop by Porsche San Diego and see if they had a Carrera S I could drive.

Low and behold, they had a beautiful CPO 2013 Carrera S in Agate Gray on black leather, fully loaded with PDK, Sport Chrono Package, PASM, 20 in Sport Techno Wheels, and 18 way Adaptive Seats. I took it for a spin with a very carefree salesman (im sure he's seen it all on these test drives), and fell in love. The car handles like it is on rails, and the PDK in Sport Plus just blitzkriegs through the gears. The 991 Carrera S is only 3100 lbs, so that 400hp goes a very long way. I was offered a good deal and the CPO warranty is valid until 2019 or 100k miles, so I felt comfortable making the transition from Munich to Stuttgart.

My 335is is a lease that's up in June, and while I had considered buying it out afterwards, the 991 is just ages beyond in almost every aspect. I had also considered an M4, but the lease residuals were pretty crap and I figured this was a chance to change things up. The only thing the BMW does better is the Harmon Kardon stereo. The 991's Bose is average, but then the exhaust notes make you forget really quick. This car has truly redefined to me what a car is capable of.

Some quick pictures:

Very nice car, I'm jealous. Yeah, Porsches are a lot better.

It's the outgoing NA 3.8L Flat Six. The 2017 Carreras will all have 3.0L turbo'd sixes. Im sure the new motor will be great for driving around town, but the power is so immediate in this motor. I love how it howls from 6k up! That's coming from someone who never thought they'd buy a non-turbo car again, after owning my thrill ride 335is.

Nicely done!

There's some threads on another unmentionable forum about how to configure the Bose settings in a Porsche to make it sound much better.

I followed those settings and then just made some minor tweaks to my liking and admittedly, it sounded 10x better.

It's still Bose so it'll never be perfect but w/e... turn the radio off and listen to the sounds, right? haha

Congratulations. The weight drop is definitely noticeable between a 335 and a 991. You're hooked.

That's a keeper. Wow that's so good looking.

My dream is also to own a 911 one day. Once my M3 collection is complete, I'll finally scratch this itch. Big congrats

Thank you all for the kind words! I cannot express how much I love this car... If I was a monk and could have one material possession, this would be it.

Sport exhaust?
No PSE (Sport Exhaust). It can be retrofitted, console button and all, for about $3k, so one day i'll probably do it.

Off the top of my head, I only can think of 3-4 things I want to do eventually:

1. Porsche Crest Center Arm rest ($250)
2. Clear Tail Lights ($550)
3. Porsche Sport Exhaust ($3000)
4. Audio upgrade of some sort ($2000-$4000)

After that, im not so sure. Im perfectly content with the car as-is for now!

40k miles. One owner car sold in Los Angeles, he must have taken good care of the car because there are no dents/dings besides one curbed wheel (Getting fixed on Wednesday!)

Haven't looked back since trading my 2011 135i w/ DCT for my 991.1 C2S about a year and half ago. 30k later and I'm still in total love with it.

Very nice OP!

I too am considering a 13' or 14' C2S.

Are you planning on DD'ing the 911?

I just sold my 2003 540i and will be turning in the 335is in June. The 911 will be my only car, and I plan to not give a care in the world to the odometer. In my opinion, life is too short to drive something boring while your dream car collects dust in a garage.
