So I was changing air filter out today and noticed the big baffle mole thingy on intake hose between intake box and throttle butterfly as I was just inspecting to see how much dust had made it past the filter.
Anyone know why BMW put this waste of plastic on that hose?
Throttle butterfly was clean as a whistle after 130000km btw.

I think it's a silencer. I removed mine by replacing the intake boot with a silicone intake tube.

If you get an aftermarket intake like my afe, it resonates at a certain rpm and makes a pretty audible noise. That little box prevents that noise through science or something

it's a silencer. soccer mom's don't want to hear induction sounds, so the manufacturers have to tune them out.

Thanks for the schooling guys.....anyone know where I buy the silicon one in Canada(GTA)....just read a couple threads that this is a somewhat worthwhile easy mod.
