Outrageous pricing!

So... against the forums wishes I went to midas to get a muffler delete estimate . I went there and they quoted me $210 for a regular straight pipe without tips and just one pipe, but that wasn't what got me so angry. I asked "ok, how much would a y pipe with some tips cost?". The guy told me it was a lot of welding and that it would cost upper end of $400 LOL, no thanks!!
No one go to Midas. Should have listened and never went there.

Yea I once wanted them to weld in a resonator on a car once. They said normally it would be $90 but since it was stainless steel it was $350.

I left.

Hi, Those guys do not focus on fab work, there more for bolt in brakes and shocks. I needed a sticker for my car,he wanted me to leave for the day! Really????!!!. You best install will be at a private muffler shop that specialize is fab work. They make there money on fab work, and you'll find there work is top notch. They hold welders all day instead of wrenches. Hope this helps.

In my younger days, before I got comfortable working on cars, I wandered into a Midas hoping to get an exhaust leak fixed. I knew it was leaking but wasn't sure how bad the damage was, all I asked for was an estimate. Several hours later they come back and they have removed the entire exhaust and want me to pay $400 to fix it - being broke, I declined.

Went to another shop down the street and also asked for an estimate, guy looked at it for about 5 mins and diagnosed it as just a bad gasket between the exhaust manifold and the mid-pipe. I think he charged me about $50 for parts and labor.

I haven't been back to a Midas since.

I can't believe people still go to Midas. They do crap work, always find something wrong that's expensive, and their pricing is ridiculous.

And the funny thing about those shops,if they find something wrong pertaining to safety, they have the right not to release your car. Don't know if it 100 or not,as they say, keep it moving! Does Midas even own a welder? All those rinky dink placed should be closed

I hear ya Mrbmw17... Called a place yesterday asking about a muffler delete (not including the tips) and the first place quoted me $250 and the second estimated around $400!! So frustrating! Especially after reading through some forums and hearing about guys who got a muffler delete done for under 100 bucks! So I'm still on the search for a good shop, if anyone knows of one in Alberta, let me know please!

This exactly. I read so many people getting their deletes done with tips for less than $200.

Midas, the place that employees all the HS auto shop drop outs.. Take your car to a shop that actually knows what it's doing.

Yeah, Midas is absolutely shit (at least in my area). I would never go back, unless I was completely desperate.
