328xi Mods
Just curious. What mods are people doing to theirs? Chip/re-flash? If the stock 0-60 is about 7 seconds, what can you expect after this? Thanks

theres a chip being sold at the place called automotive engineering in toronto.. its for faster throttle response and other stuff.. it allows the ecu to function freely.. but yeah thats just that.. chip or reflashing is the last mod that you would look at .. there are more pleasing or satisfying mods out there.. but with the XI you must be careful. when you move towards suspension.

well if you use 93 octane gas (shell or mobile) you get 17hp.
0-60 youre not gonna go sub 6 seconds on the xi but it will help you in that midrange of rpms. just remember though, your warranty will be fucked if bmw catches you with it. you might want to read up on it and see if its "invisible" to dignostic computers. my simota Cold air makes the car feel a bit peppier but not by much. even though a 328, let alone an xi doesn't put up the numbers that a 335 would, its still a hell of a lot of fun to drive and has pretty damn good pickup for any car. hope you ordered a 6mt... it makes the car feel faster too. dont let the 335 hype fool you, the 328's are great cars and having that AWD is almost priceless in the snow. PM me if you have any more q's as i'm kinda in the same boat as you looking for as much hp as i can squeeze outta this thing. |

Thanks alot man. Good point about the warrantee. Yea, I am going to leave the car as is. I am impressed with it stock. As you said, it is powerful enough, and is really fun to drive. I am coming over from an A4 2.0T 6MT. That car is plenty fast for me. I wanted to try auto trans, since I have been driving stick for 3 years. Yea, the 335xi is a rocket, but since I am saving for a house and would get way too many tickets, I just could not justify the extra cost at this point. Gotta go AWD. My Quattro is amazing. So with the MODS you have done, do you think you are closer to 6 for 0-60?

much closer, probably near the 6.3 mark of the stock 328i (i think they claim 6.8 or something for the xi in manual and 7.1 in auto.
the cold air intake is a sweet mod, gives you a little more kick and also makes a sweet howling sound when you hit the gas too. i think if you do want to mod it, go with cosmetic stuff. Blacklines are popular (I'm getting mine delivered tomorrow!) also the obvious rims and whatnot are fun to add. maybe a rear spoiler (i got the OEM BMW one and it really makes the car look sporty). you made a good choice, especially the xdrive cuz like i said, gets you through anything, obviously within ground clearance. its funny too cuz i almost went for a new A4 2.0T quattro instead of the 328xi, glad i got the bimmer. let me know if you need anymore tips or anything. -Badger |

might be because its a different car/engine but the chips that hondata does on acura changes the ecu mapping and lowers the vtec engage from 6000rpms to 4500rpms.... you can really feel the difference on the tsx's and rsx's. i dont think it would be AS much on a bimmer but hell, if you can feel 17 hp and 13 tq then id say theres something wrong with you. im gonna contact someone at jlevisw to ask if that ecu from speedinnovations actually voids the warranty.

ive heard some of these reflashes are actually invisible when checked by the dealership unless they ACTUALLY look at the ecu itself. still waiting to hear back from JleviSW.com about it |

If you're worried about speed, you should have bought a different car. The 328xi is a competently quick car, but if you're looking to go really fast it's not exactly a good choice. Either a 335 if you have the money or an Evo/STI if not would be the way to go. Hell even a used Elise, I think you can get them for under 35k now. (Except those aren't useful in places you need AWD )
The car is plenty quick for street use up to about 100 or so, after that it drops off precipitously. After 120-130 it's like molasses. (Or maybe that's my limiter, never really had an opportunity to truly find out if the sport package on the xi w/o 18"s is 130 or 150)

i don't think "worried about speed" is the way I'd put it. Just trying to use the full potential of the car. I won't lie I was looking at E90 330xi's at 1st and was kinda disappointed that they would go DOWN from 255hp to 230hp using the same engine for the 328. Plus its fun to make the car the fastest it can be (within reason and not fucking your warranty up). I think everyone on this site as well as anyone who knows even a smidge about BMW's knows that if you want speed, you have to at least get a 335 if not an M series.
The car is pretty quick but just like money, hp/tq is one of those things you almost can't ever have enough of. |
