A car for someone who "does not want car payment"
Sure, she'd love to drive an M3, but in a girls world there are roughly 6,500 things she would prioritize spending her money on. That being said, she likes to keep cars 8-12 years, and wants to get one that will take her through the next stage of her life.
What are your thoughts? Something nice that she won't grow out of, and will be low cost to operate. Only requirement is AWD Used Infiniti G37 Lexus IS Toyota 4 Runner Subaru Legacy Last edited by hockey21; 09-06-2017 at 08:15 AM.. |

Are all the cars listed above used ?
I think all the cars you listed are nice, but all a little quirky. Honda CR-V is very nice, maybe more refined then 4-Runner but not as off road capable. Even the HR-V is nice. Subaru with CVT's and flat 4's are neat but they are unique. Oil usage issues? I like IS but getting old and tight interior, but I think very nice. G37 great looking very nice, also old. maintaining a used one something to consider. Last edited by overcoil; 05-30-2016 at 01:18 PM.. |

are any of the larger fiats AWD? Got one for a gf and the dealer was offering lifetime powertrain warranty at the time.

Stay away from fiats. I've seen 1year old Chryslers(fiat owned) 200 with fasteners rusted solid. Things must start rusting before they're even bolted together. Hyundai Genesis would be my recommended girl car.
Oops that's not awd. The new rav 4 is pretty sharp. Bigger than previous model and way better looking. |

For somebody who wants a reliable good car for years to come my gut feeling would be either a Hyundai or a skoda. The more recent Hyundai models are really nice looking.

What's her budget? Is she paying cash? I think it all comes down to her budget to asses the best car her money can buy.

G37 is starting to get dated. My dad has the new Lexus es350 and it's a very smooth car to drive just not very engaging the steering is incredibly light. But used Lexus' hold their value fairly well when the time comes to sell. If I were you I'd tell her to go the Toyota/Lexus route, can't go wrong with them.
And don't even consider a Hyundai screams cheap everywhere. Had one come in for repairs at work and the metals they use for the components are horrible (I could literally bend some of the parts with my hands) |

For someone considering a 4 Runner and a Lexus IS I would first decide on what type of vehicle is wanted before trying to narrow it down to the brand/model. I can't imagine putting these two together and not immediately being able to knock one of them off the list.

I had my g37 for 8 years since the day it first came out. Put 138k on it and it was a solid car. Only thing I changed was a 02 sensor and thermostat. Power is good enough.
Prices have bottomed out so you can find a low mileage one for a great price |

Lexus IS would get my vote. Great resale and reliability. Not sure I would call a 2014 model "old" lol. You can tell it's not old because the wave of lease roll-offs hasn't happened yet. Lexus also lets you lease their certified cars which is nice for a lot of people.

Not everyone has one, relatively inexpensive AWD, fairly reliable and "OK" looking. The only thing you have to watch is rust, must be protected from rust from day one. |

Lexus IS. Only if it's not an IS250. Reliability is great performance can't keep up but it offered more than enough

A bus pass. Problem solved.
And I'm only halfway joking. If you live in a major urban area and don't want a car payment, you can make do with public transportation and things like zipcar. |

Lexus IS 350/ 250 is what she wants, but knows it's a little more than she should be paying for ( can't complain about a gf that thinks like this) and have not hit the used market off lease 4 runner she loves, but probably not most economic as we may move somewhere where she needs to drive a lot Audi A3, great lease deal but she docent want to blow over mileage Infiniti G37, top runner for her.. can get awesome deals at auction from infiniti financial acura MDX.. have not thought about that one, good thinking. will check into it subaru legacy- top runner if she goes new. i told her to just lease it upfront, save some money on the payments, and see where we end up in 3 years at end of lease. ( have friends at Subaru NA and can get a great lease deal) thank you for opinions |
