Heated Seats
So my wife has been complaining that her seats don't get as hot as her A Class ones did. I thought she was referring to heat up time and put it down to cloth in the A Class v leather in the X1...
However I drove the car the other day and used the seat heaters and the seats get warm and not hot. I've had lots of BMW's with heated seats and the have all got pretty hot, including my current F10. Is this just the norm or do I have an issue with the seat heaters? I'd say max temperature is similar to level 2 on my F10

No Eco pro (never used it!) and I had just jumped out of my F10 and into the F48, there was a noticeable difference in heat output...

Pretty much line ball with my F20 M135i (and it's been cold here!)
No complaints from me or passengers -- we usually need to switch off after 10 or so minutes

Thanks I think that there's definitely a problem with them then. It's the same in my F10, after 10 minutes I have to knock it down to level 2 as they get pretty hot... Now I just have to find the time to send it in to be looked at

when we are talking about heat comfort, one slightly OT question - is there a way to set the steering wheel heating on whenever I press the seat heating button? I have it that way in my VW and would love that in the X1 when it finally arrives.

Nope. Separate buttons. I used to leave the wheel heating on for most if not all of my 30mile journey into work when I had my F31. Seats were on 1 at most after the initial warm up on 3 then turned off most days as they retained the heat all too well.

The heated seats are not the best. I had a Insignia Eco 2010 model from work. The heat on those seats were far greater than the BMW. Maybe BMW took it consideration that too much heat on the seats would make the driver lazy, thus reducing the awareness of the drivers.

So I tested both driver and passenger seats to see if I see any asymmetry in heating up. Both seat heated up the same way, so although this test might not be completely conclusive, it does seem that the sport seats do not get too hot.
Still interested to know what the dealer says though. |

To my senses, the heated seats in our F48 seems to heat as effectively as those in my F20.

Mine have three settings... Rare, Medium and Well Done! Even in the very cold weather recently, I have them on full power for only five minutes then drop them to the lowest setting or I find I get too hot. ... I have leather seats.

This is really strange as the feedback is so mixed! I’ve had 7 BMW’s with heated seats, they all got unbearably hot after 5 minutes on setting 3. This one doesn’t get hotter than settling 2 on previous vehicles than on setting 3 on the F48...

Same. I start out with full power but soon drop them down to the lowest setting as I find it too hot. My wife on the other hand has her's on full, all the time. I certainly can't complain that mine aren't hot enough...

Did you know you can code these settings to make them warmer? Each of the three levels has sub levels of what temp they reach.
The BimmerCode app has it on there, but I haven't actually done it yet. I've only coded a few other things on the X1. |

Now will see if BMW will do this for me or find a local forum member with the gear to help me out... Anyone on here in the West Midlands with the gear to do this? |

It is known that in order to turn on heater of seats - it is necessary to press the corresponding button, while heater turns on in the maximum mode (three poles). To turn off - you must press three times accordingly - it will decrease by a stick and then it will turn off.
So - do not necessarily press three times, you can press one time but longer, then it turns off immediately. amazing, but I realized that many are not aware of this)) |
