Slow navigation

I must admit I haven't paid too much attention to the X1's navigation system since we took delivery of ours in late March. But this last week, we've travelled over 1,500 km to areas I have no familiarity with, and I've found the nav system giving me late instructions on a few too many occasions. As in "Turn right here" as I've just crossed an intersection. Prior to the intersection I've had no indication a turn was imminent, either by voice instructions or the HUD.

This is in marked contrast to my F20, where I've never experienced this. It almost seems that the chip processing the car's nav is running too slow, or has a full memory. Maybe it needs to be rebooted!!

Anyone else noticed this? According to everything I can find, I have the latest versions of the nav system software and maps.

My brother's X1 has excatly the same issue, it gives the instruction to turn when you are exactly right at the turning or when you have just past it. He also had the same problem when he had a X4 for a loan car. Both systems were just the basic navigation system.

Hi ttimbo
I have noticed the same thing on a number of occasions. The directions seem to come in just 1 or 2 seconds later than I need. I have found myself going round roundabouts twice because I was waiting and unsure of where I was supposed to go. I also end up relying more on the HUD rather than spoken instructions. I installed the latest maps but it didn't make any difference to the time lag.
I plugged in my old freestanding Tomtom on my last trip to compare the two and there is certainly a lag of even as much as 3 or 4 seconds between them.
Very annoying!

I have also noticed the late call for a turn although I think I normally get advance notice and info in the HUD. Perhaps I just notice it more at awkward junctions

Thanks for the confirmation. My wife has commented as well, and I wanted to check if it's our car or more general. I will raise it with my dealer and I suggest others do, too...that way, we might get BMW to review and act.

Garage List
I noticed the same, it is to slow.
And the 50m zoom is not enough, I think a 10m zoom will be better like other GPS

Interesting! I guess what zoom level is appropriate depends on where you are. On long trips here in Australia, I have my zoom level set to 10 km!

I do agree that the instructions are sometimes late (more noticeable in the city).

But mine is set to split screen with the "arrow" info displayed on the right. This way, it's easier to keep up with the next step well ahead of the audible/visual instructions. Can't remember if full screen offers a similar choice. Combined with street signs, I've not yet had any major issues. That might change on longer drives and via new/unfamiliar routes.
