Charge Pipe question.. NOOB

I understand this is a common issue. But is there ties to build dates/revision. Where certain models/years see more failures?

It was more common on E90 but it def is an issue on F30. I don't believe it's related to year/model as they're all plastic and prone to cracking. If you have ANY power mods you'll want to upgrade, even stock you may want to invest.

Nope, no specific cars. It has happened on stock cars but RARE. It's probably a very low BMW warranty claim son o reason for them to fix the designs, especially now the they've moved onto the B58 engine.

But you start pushing more boost and that engine starts to twist more on the motor mounts it flexes that plastic charge pipe and causes it to crack at the throttle body mounting point. It's hard and brittle plastic.

Would you guys recommend getting both sides? Or is the single side VRSF CP suitable?

Go both sides if you upgrade turbos. It's really up to you if you want to spend the money.
I even upgraded my turbo and opted not to. Felt it wasn't necessary but others will disagree. The passenger side hasn't failed to date and it's a rubber hose with metal retainer rings unlike the driver side that goes into the throttle body. It's welded plastic and it WILL fail.

No, seems completely random and happens to every year form what I have seen. Usually the older the car the more common, but we did just do one on a 2016

Single sided is preferred, I've yet to see the hot side fail on any N55.

They have to be installed from the top and bottom of the car. One piece attaches to the throttle body, the other attaches to the intercooler
