Parking Assistant
I used the Parking Assistant for the first time today. I liked it. Anyone use it?

I do use it from time to time. But strangely, mine leaves a bigger gap on the left compared to when I park on the right had side of the road. The gap from the kerb is almost always 2~3 inches wider on the left. I'm assuming it might be calibrated for left hand drive cars, even though it's a UK model. It's just a guess though... Anyway, nothing a bit of human intervention can't fix.
I also love that the driver is in charge of the acceleration/brakes, same as my previous car. Hate the full-auto ones in higher end models. |

I've had the X1 for two months now and still haven't plucked up the courage to try it! I'm scared of kerbing the wheels; how does the car know where the kerb is??

I use mine quite a lot - it seems to use the car in front to estimate where the kerb is. Therefore when I parked behind a car yesterday which was touching the kerb, I scraped the alloys. So works well, but be careful!!!

I have only tried parallel parking once and it was alongside a row of bollards rather than a kerb. Scared me a bit as it seemed very tight from the mirrors but it did get in. I need to try more but it is finding a space on a road that is not busy so that you have plenty of time. |

I have tried numerous times on DC streets, and the system worked well except one time when I let the car go in reverse too fast to get out of traffic. That was the only time the system didn't work well. The car hit the curve, so I had to cancel the system and manually parked. My friend said the system did warn me to slow down, but I was too busy checking the rear view mirror to notice...
