E90 vs F30 Petrol Engines?

As is well documented, the two litre petrol engines in the old E90 were, not to put too fine a point in it, rubbish - going into limp mode, cutting out, etc. Are the F30 petrols free of such issues? I was looking for a 320d but I'm finding it hard to source a car with the right spec and have found one I like but it's a 320i. Would I be mad to contemplate it?

Completely different engines in F30. All are turbocharged N20 engine. They seem more reliable
