What's with BMW haters?
I'm new to this board and this is my second BMW. First was an '08 335i and it took a while in that car to realize that people treat you different when you're driving a BMW. How so? Well, in that car (and for absolutely no reason whatsoever) some dude in a p/u decided to decorate the front of my car with spit as I was following him on the road. I was not tailgating by any means. But, that was years ago and I thought it was an isolated incident.
Well, today another Einstein in another p/u decided to "express his intelligence" as I passed him. I was dumbfounded. I had done absolutely nothing that I could think of to justify his verbal onslaught. At first, I thought he wasn't even talking to me, but he passed by as I turned at a light and let a few more choice words fly. I couldn't help but think "Is this guy jealous? Is there a BMW driver stereotype I'm missing? What drives a random person to be a jackwagon to someone just for the car they're driving?" In any event, I ignored the clown and went on my way. Ironically, the last vehicle I had was a truck and I would bet quite a sum of money that he had no idea that I carry... Oh well. I suppose some people feel the need to make a public demonstration of their ignorance. |

BMW drivers are often believed to be stuck-up, ass-shat who think they are the best drivers in the world because of their "Ultimate Driving Machine". No one really knows why people believes this, but no one really cares about origin these days. If somebody berates BMW drivers because of BMW, others will do so to fit in.
BMWs are also nice cars. People usually want nice things. Not everyone can afford nice things. Hence, the jealousy factor plays a roll as well. Don't let it get to your head. |

In 14 years of driving, hundreds of 280 mile/day commutes and six different BMWs, the only incident has been a guy who said I drove a Nazi piece of shit. Trust me, nobody pays that much attention to what you drive. Just get in your car and enjoy it (safely of course).

I've noticed that a lot of new truck guys are a holes when they're around sporty cars. Maybe they want to prove they're fast too?
Have you noticed how minivan drivers try to keep up with your fun car, but rarely bother when you're in a normal car like a Camry (unless you punch it)? I'm sure there's some psychological reason behind this. |

On a weekly basis. They are either really good or really bad. Today driving 535i Loaner a jerk in a pickup wanted to race even though I was talking on the phone. I knew that we were racing when he burned rubber and smoked out the area with his exhaust. I will pay more attention next time. Funny this rarely happens in the i8 and NEVER in the M6. Unless it's a mustang driver.

There are multiple trailer parks here and I saw a brand new Ford Raptor parked in one of them. It amazes me how some people will attempt to pay for a lifestyle that they cannot afford. |

Experience this also, especially those awful sounding strait piped turbo diesels, I usually give them a quick taste of the M torque then they speed off throwing black smoke every which way

OP I wonder if you think you had some sort of epiphany - this has been happening for a very long time. And I'm sure not just to BMW drivers, but other luxury makes as well.
It's generally jealousy, mixed in with some righteous anger at the small percentage of BMW drivers who are actually jackholes in real life. Welcome to the club, ignore it and move on. |

When I first got the E90 in 2005 some guy spat on my car on the freeway. It stank. He was in some old POS. Wasn't sure if accident or on purpose. Now I know...
Never really had any issues around here because BMWs are everywhere. I'm sure there are stil aholes out there and I hope never to run into them. |

Have you ever driven past a shiny glass building and caught a reflection of you driving your BMW?

I've only been driving a BMW for just over 3 years now. Haven't had a single issue in either my previous 328 or our current M3 or X5. Maybe I'm to old and am just ignored.

that why whenever I go to mcdonalds or any fast food joint I ask for sauce even tho I don't use them, and when I run into an ass hat like that i make sure to speed up get in-front and toss them out my window. Good luck using your wipers on that jackass. I've notice it generally either Benz, P/U drivers, and Honda driver that for no reason start crap.

I'm 25, so i get a lot of this. Driving an ~$75k car at my age brings up many assumptions:
1. Mommy and daddy paid for it -- False, but they did pay for my college and i am eternally grateful that i graduated without college debt and hence can afford this car myself. 2. I live at home and spend my entire paycheck -- also false, i own a two family home I had some guy scream at me saying "how's daddy's car treating you" after i pulled in front of him. Him and his son then both flipped me off. He was driving a 08ish Lexus IS. I chalk it up to jealousy, actually feel bad for the chap
