What are your thoughts on vario steering?

I ordered my x1 with this and I love it. So precise and secure when driving in a spirited manner ( particularly in a bigger car..)....

I just wondered how others found it?

It's good, but not as good on the X1 as on other BMW models I've driven.

On my F20 M135i, the steering feels a lot tighter in Sports mode than the X1. It's actually quite weighty and gives you a very precise sense of where the wheels are and grip.

This is the one option I dropped along with lumbar support as I had gone over my ceiling budget already and some stuff had to go. As my wife is the main driver and does very little mileage I didn't think that we would get enough benefit from this option.

Funnily enough I think that the standard steering is too weighted in comfort mode and should be lighter. I understand it being heavier in sports mode but comfort mode should be pretty effortless imo

I would skip it, I don;t like it,
absolutely not as good as on F30 or E60 or couple other models I drove with that.
Fine-maneuvering is actually more difficult than without it,I'd say.

A LOT of people complain when they make it effortless.

They should just make a IDrive menu where you have 5 options to choose from.
But then others will complain there are too many options.
No way to please everyone.
