Valve Cover.. I know, another one.

Hey Guys,

Did an entire overhaul of the Valve Cover 4 months ago. VCG, VG, Eccentric shaft censor, blah blah blah.

Inspected the plactic cover and no cracks, awesome. last week had misfires due to pooled up oil around plugs in cylinder 2,3,4,5. Replaced all plugs and 1 bad coil and cleaned well.

Brought the car in for service and the master tech is saying the cover is cracked (138k miles)

My question is does the N52 330 alu VC (11 12 7 548 274) fit on the N51? Im assuming yes. Ill just need to pick up the the ALU bolts since the steel ones will destroy the threads right?

Sorry, i searched on here but couldnt find a thread with info.

Evan@Tischer

I will order the part from you guys if it will work.

thanks all

Not exactly sure on the fitment, but send a message to the guys over at PelicanParts and they will give you a quick and accurate response! Might have to supply them with the last 7 digits of your VIN to make sure!

It will fit. But youhave to swap to the external oil seperator, since its built into the valve cover on the n51. But at least the metal covers dont break.

I wouldn't do a swap for the aluminum valve cover. You are going to have to change the oil pan and have to buy all the hoses along with the oil separator. It will be cheaper to just replace the plastic valve cover.

If he has a cast aluminum oil pan it would have the threaded oil return line hole but just plugged, so oil pan wouldn't need replacement in that case. I believe the manual transmission and RWD ones had sheet metal oil pans. All XI's regardless of transmission and auto transmission RWD I believe came with cast aluminum oil pans.

But even with all the rest needed gaskets, oil separator and related hoses it would come easily twice the price of a single plastic valve cover that comes with all the gaskets on it. The engine harness may not fit well also.

Also the outside oil separator under the manifold makes any work involving removal of intake manifold a pain.
