Condition Based Servicing
So my E91 335i is going to need an oil change next month, due Dec 2016 (or another 12,000 miles - don't think I'll manage that in 2 weeks ).
How often do you all replace the spark plugs and air filters in your cars? Trying to decide whether to do all of it or just the oil and filter. It doesn't seem like the car tells you when these are due, just more general things like oil. Is www.bmw-service.co.uk standard dealer prices (showing me £199 for oil and filter and £445 for oil, filter, air filter, spark plugs.. or will the dealers give you a cheaper price in person? |

for the price difference i dont think its worthwhile. spark plugs are something you could do at home fairly easily or an indie could do at a fraction of the cost.

I Know some of the lads hear have gone on line for quotes, printed them out and gone to the dealer and they have tried to bill them and then produced the online quote, its a lot cheaper, dealers are robbing bastards
Personally I get the parts and either fit my self and as I have a service stamp, I do that and keep the receipts or use a local indi and supply the parts, as long as he stamps my book. |

I get BMW or my Indy to do the oil/filter changes
I do the microfilter, plugs and air filter myself. Plugs around 10k miles Microfilter, brake fluid and air filter every other year (I only do 2500 miles a year)

I've got a Bmw warranty so for simplicity to keep it covered and to get a relationship with dealer in case I need to use the warranty I think I'd rather just pay the dealer. Ill give a couple of local dealers a call tomorrow.

I did the bare minimum to maintain my warranty which was buy all my parts at the dealer (not much difference in price compared to pattern parts) and used my local specialist to fit everything. Cuts the servicing cost in 2 and maintains the all important warranty. I have made numerous claims with no issue. They only requested proof of service history once too. |

All depends on your annual mileage. I was doing 6k per year, so I was having a service done every year to ensure the oil was in top condition. Some would change every six months!
Spark plugs I would do every 3 years with low mileage. |

I agree, its not overly clear. I'm drawing up a list of jobs to do over the next 12 months that captures everything. A lot of these will be DIY as i dont have the warranty or detailed history to justify main dealer.
What amazes me is that the first service and oil change from new was 2 years and 20k miles! |
