Fuel Injector recall 16E-A01

This one specifies replacing all "injectors" built prior to 02/13 under the guise of leaky injectors causing emissions failure. Wow, BMW is concerned about the environment!

Hmm, wonder if the daily pounding of VW by most of the free world has anything to do with this. Not that BMW would intentionally disregard bad engineering or manufacturing at the expense of the environment, or their paying customers. Can't recall, pardon the pun, that ever happening before.

Guess they figure its cheaper than 20-30 billion dollars, although the end cost to VW may easily double that. All I know is know is now I don't have to get raped over jacked up prices on fuel injectors due to a general shortage of the FJ's due to the common knowledge of a problem and the likely need for replacement.

Letter does not say which engines. I presume this refers at least to all N54's as the VIN in the letter refers to my car.

Curious about those of us who have already replaced our fuel injectors and paid for the parts/labor out of pocket.

I'm the 2nd owner - not a CPO car either, bought it through CARMAX as there just aren't that many 335is available, and frankly it was a better deal than I would have paid for a CPO. Yes, I bought a warranty too.

You know the deal - When you get a letter take it to BMW N/A, If you used BMW parts they may do it, if not......

Good luck

Took my 2009 335xi to dealer for misfire issue about a year ago. They replaced all 6 injectors under this recall (no charge of course). I am not the first owner of the car and it is not under warranty or CPO.

Hmm, this would be great. I've emailed BMW my VIN to see if I'm included in this recall as well.

Just got a response, however, they danced around my question

Thank you for writing to BMW of North America, LLC regarding your 2009 BMW 335i Sedan. We appreciate your inquiry.

Recalls are specific to a vehicle's identification number (VIN), and WBAPM73509E194755 has the following open recall: 16V-071. You will receive a letter via First-Class Mail when replacement parts become available. At this time, we anticipate parts will become available in 2017.

You can also access the most up-to-date recall information at our website: http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...er/recall.aspx. Simply enter the last seven digits of your VIN. Please keep in mind we require up to 30 days after completion of a recall for this data to be updated and recalls issued prior to 1997 are not included in search results.

For your convenience, the BMW Customer Relations and Services Department is available Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. ET and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. ET. You can reach us at 1-800-831-1117.

We hope you find this information helpful; thank you again for taking the time to write to us.

Sincerely,

Cameron Wagner

So I assume the recall campaign Cameron mentioned is the airbag. I will reply back and say that a friend of mine received 16E-A01 and see if the fuel injector recall only applies to certain vehicles/years?

Well this is going to suck if my car doesn't qualify.

I just replaced bank 1 injectors with some used ones I found online to troubleshoot an issue. Seems to have fixed my problem, but having new injectors would be nice. The only recall campaign I have listed for mine is the airbag one one their website when I plug my VIN in. Hopefully this gets changed since I have a 06/09 build date.

I'm starting to think the recall is only for the 335is. Will update you guys as soon as they reply to my email.

I tried OP's vin in that recall link, it also shows just the 16V-071 which is the airbag recall.

Hmm I just checked the BMW USA site for my car and the only recall on it is the Takata airbag. I bet they're not going to give me new injectors because I don't have to pass emissions where I live. I suppose that's the only time I'd actually want to have emissions.

This would be great if it applied to all N54's. I replaced one bank of injectors last winter so if I could get the other bank replaced for free, that would be awesome.

I checked my vin on the website as well and show no recalls. 2009 335i with no recalls performed based on service records. Just seems odd that for me even the airbag does not show.

For all you folks wondering about injectors affecting you or not, simply go to www.realoem.com and look up your VIN. If your engine uses injector #13538616079, you ARE affected!

The OP car is a N54T engine, car made in 6/2011, and it uses 'injector' #13538616079. So does the n54 car made in 4/2009 mentioned in post 13.
  • 335i made in 2008 and 2009 with N54 engine uses 'injector' #13538616079.
  • 2011 335i with N55 engine uses 'injector' #13537568607.
  • 328i with N51 and N52 engines use 'injector valve' #13537574376 or #13537531634.
