E92 small store compartment in front of shifter?
Hey guys, I have a fully loaded 2013 335i coupe and the small storage compartment in front of my shifter has no cover on it. In photos of some other people's E92's on here I noticed there compartment has a lid on there's. Does this all depend on packages/production years of the E92? I've always been curious. Thanks.

On my car, the covered "storage" area has the cigarette lighter and an ashtray. I think this was the case for all cars equipped with the smokers package.

Not certain of when the change was made, but generally speaking the pre-LCI has ashtray and cigarette lighter there, but then BMWNA cheaped out and omitted both in the LCI.

Yep, pre-LCI came standard with smokers package (covered ashtray). LCI had the smokers package removed (not even an option) and has the open bin.

You can buy replacement parts to swap them out. My car came with an empty open storage space there, which I replaced with a lidded compartment. I don't have the same model as you, but I bought one of these, which fit in the same space in the center console as the open compartment that came with my car:

I don't smoke (nor does anyone else in my car), but I agree that the uncovered bin looks really cheap. I especially hate the way they designed the console covering (wood, in my car) to simply go around this bin, the shifter plate, and the iDrive controller, rather than adding trim pieces to cover the seams. It makes all three parts look like they just cut holes in the wood with a jigsaw and plunked them in.
