SS mid pipes and 328xi - will transfer case interfere or not?

I've heard that because of transfer case on x-drives Afe mid pipes need to be modified to fit, but is same true for SS mid pipes? I know SS are a bit smaller in diameter. What exactly needs to be modified and will that be an issue for a shop?
