19'' Wheels

Do all 19'' wheels suffer from cracking if you hit a pot hole too hard??

The reason I ask is I have style 220s and if i had a cracked one I would like to get some 313s, or are they as bad.

Cheers Andrew

i know the MV4s are prone to cracking, i think the biggest cause of the issue is Englands shite roads and run flat tires..

Although i have not had a cracked alloy in the 1 year of ownership of my BMW with MV4s and run flats my best mate has had 4 or 5 crack, although all luckily all replaced by BMW. he has now changed to non runflats and hasnt had any issues since

Both 18's and 19's can and do crack. Crappy roads and RFT's combine to kill alloys.

Agreed, best thing I did was to switch to non-RFT. Also improved the ride and handling.

Personally had 18in, 19in and now 20in. Never had a cracked wheel. TOUCH WOOD

Plenty of mates have cracked wheels though, the e92 was notorious for it. Not sure if it's how the weight is distributed

Yes you would. Better ride and will help prevent alloys cracking

Excuse my ignorance also, but why exactly do run flats increase the likelihood of cracking?

I would have thought a run flat would be a harder tyre therefore giving less in the event of a hard impact & transmitting more of the impact to the wheel...maybe.

I have 230s on my 335i & have never had any issues with cracks & they've now covered 100k, despite the missus driving over a stray wheel & hub on a slip road off the M20, destroyed two Goodyear F1s, pushed driver side shock into its stopper, ripped the jacking points of & damaged under tray. Wheels were fine though

The run flat sidewall is much stiffer so transfers more of the force in to the alloy.

BMW alloys are quite brittle and prone to cracking, best way is to go to aftermarket wheels from a decent company.

My similar style 225M alloys have been fine luckily. All can crack if you hit something like a deep pot hole really hard. The 313s sound more prone to cracking due to the fact that the spokes offer so little support over the large gap from spoke to spoke. Get something like a CSL pattern. Looks nicer in my opinion and offers good structure.
Also ditch the run flats if you haven't already.
