Look Out for Bad Chinese Parts

Saw this photo with this article about a the only Chinese parts section at the Tokyo Auto Salon. Watch out for extremely bad knockoffs.

http://jalopnik.com/tokyo-auto-salon...tic-1791279835

Notice the 666 wheels on the shelf in the photo

Thats not foil or pot metal.....its "Chineseium"

Its name on the periodic table is "Pu" and its atomic weight is highly variable......

There are a ton of Chinese parts in every vehicle. Connectors, sensors etc. probably too many to count if we are honest.

You guys do know that almost all aftermarket parts and wheels come from China and Taiwan right?

Most of these wheel companies, and "tuners" have their parts made in factories there and shipped over in bulk. Look on alibaba.com

Doesn't make them quality. Most quality wheels are manufactured in US, Italy, Japan or Germany.

Might be ok for a mirror cap or other small item, but not for structural items like wheels.

I think law enforcement shut down a Chinese booth at the last SEMA for advertising knock off parts. There is video of them shutting them down and confiscating all the parts.

Loads of OEM structural parts (like suspension arms etc) are made in china.
Even OEM engine parts.
All OEM manufacturers have production plants in china.
Parts from china can be OEM quality or they can be utter crap.
It's part specific, not country specific.
Even parts 'made in germany' can be largely made in china as just the last stage of the fabrication process can be done in germany, like mounting a chinese made rubber bushing in a chinese made track rod arm.

Referring to aftermarket/3rd party, not OEM contract work which follow specific guidelines/regulations.

Meyle is aftermarket (not OEM), quite a lot of it made in china and considered of high quality. And Meyle HD is considered better than OEM as it is said to fix certain OEM issues.
Same goes for Febi. Lots made in china, and sometimes they're even supplies bought from OEM manufacturers where the bmw logo is removed with a grinder or so, and the oem manufacturers' name is still left on the product....

There's a lot of high quality Chinese parts. "Knock off" stuff are never good though.

Just because its aftermarket doesn't mean it's knock off stuff. Items really need to be evaluated on an item by item basis. Copyright infringement and blatant knock offs are terrible and need to be cracked down on.

iPhones are made in China.

Stereotype debunked.

::drops mic::

But seriously: This is more a function of the cultural and intellectual differences between East and West than anything else. The Chinese language didn't have a word that even remotely resembled "patent", "trademark", or "intellectual property" -- the closest, IIRC, was "author" -- back when capitalism started seeping into the country and creating the trade imbalances we all enjoy today.

There was a time when Japanese made products were scoffed as well.... Then Korean products. These sort of bigotry is getting old and kindergarten like.

That big 'ol Chinese wall they built is a still standing after all these centuries.

Quality products can be had.... How much are you willing to pay?

FWIW, most of the parts you use are made in China.
