340 M performance power and sound kit
looking for people's opinions on this kit. it's pricing for $2,850 and you're only getting an extra 35 hp with a bit of torque boost as well. I feel like you can get the same power numbers from after markets for a hell of a lot cheaper. thoughts?

Plus it comes with a full cat back exhaust. That has two sound modes that are driver selectable. And yea there is whole not voiding your warranty thing. Exhaust gets a TON of compliments.
OP there is a very detailed thread in the B58 mod section. Suggest you start your research there. |

I have heard the power and sound kit and driven it on the 440i. I will be one of the few voices on here that does not like it. The extra power is nice, but the exhaust sound is annoying, especially on deceleration. It pops a lot and sounds like backfiring. No thanks. It's too bad that BMW will not let you get the power kit by itself for the 440i. And by the way, if you add it at the port, the cost is $3195 + $300 for exhaust tips. Total $3495.

I'd really like to hear it in person before purchasing. I'd hate to spend all that money and not like it. Not many on the dealer lots with MPPSK

although it isnt a big bump in power, its smoother than any other possible tune out there.
and just looking at the cat-back exhaust, you can tell someone at BMW sat down for months designing that piece of work. it sounds amazing but i guess its objective.

I don't like the sound as well, plus not a lot you can do with the Kit that you cannot do without.
My car is my DD, set up more as a GT than pure sport. Someone else wrote about drone on the highway - so he puts in in Comfort on the highway. So then you're stuck with the Grand Marquis steering effort, so not an option for me. |

I have installed it on mine. Paid too much since in Belgium you cannot activate the performance part.
Regarding the exhaust, it is very subjective. I heard the akrapovic and did not like it. The frequency was just too high for my taste. The bmw sounds very loud from the outside, it just ROARS, sounds great. From the inside, it is much quieter, the car is well noise isolated. When I put it into Sport while driving at slow speed, I open the windows to hear it better. On the highway it is no fun because you are coasting too much and too much wind gets in if you drive windows open. It really depends on your personality, I really like it when accelerating even between 15 and 40 miles/hr but it is too loud when decelerating. Too many pops and bangs which you cannot control. Can the pops & bangs be diminished by coding? I doubt it but I'll have to check. I also deactivated the active sound because when in sport mode, there is a constant rumble in the car that gets very tirying. |

Well I ordered it on my car coming in a month. Ive listened to virtually every sound clip posted including the "gunshot" clips. Betting that even in its absolutely worst, burbbliest, backfiring, droniest moments it will be 10x more refined and liveable than my STi with catback and corsa exhaust. I guess everything is relative...

Here is a 440 with stock exhaust, if you don't like pops and burbles maybe the B58 is not for you? As for me ... best thing I've ever done to a car was to put the MPPSK on my 340!
edit: as someone noted earlier there is a thread with lots of information. http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1304356

The pops could definitely be annoying if it was nonstop but it only happens when you get off throttle under hard acceleration. I personally love my car with mppk, although I do find myself wanting more power.

First post here.
Have had the MPPSK on my 340i for 3 weeks now. Finding it pretty livable everyday. Very livable in comfort, snarly and crackly in sport if you get on it at all, does much more spectacular burnouts in sport plus than before. The pops and crackles may annoy some but I'm fine with them since you can make them go away on command. Can get some drone when you lug it under load in Sport and end up short shifting manually around town at times to avoid holding gears too long but thats fine with me as well. In comfort noise level higher than stock but is pretty reasonable with no drone and "undignified" no snaps, crackles and pops. There is definitely a better push to go with all the noise but that is pretty subjective, objectively tires break definitely loose noticeably easier and substantially longer in sport plus. Not so sure if it's just the extra torque or some portion of the traction control was loosened up as well in sport plus. While I would prefer sport steering setting for any enthusiastic driving certainly not a show stopper on the freeway and ride is way better anyway over socal chop anyway in comfort. My normally sedate wife came home with a smile after 'borrowing' the car and it was obvious when the pulled in driveway she was running around in sport....... First post here as well. Had the MPPSK for 2 weeks on my new 340i coming from a 2014 335i. Overall I love the sound in sport modes, deep throaty growl when cruising and all hell breaks loose when winding through the gears under hard acceleration. What I don't like however is the obviously software manufactured pops and burbles when getting off the gas. Totally repeatable and exactly the same every time. For me, not when getting off the gas from hard acceleration but getting off the gas under any condition results in exactly 10 pops then silence, never any different. Even as the transmission (8AT) is downshifting during deceleration, 10 burbles with each gear... No droning issues, no issues in comfort although I only use that for highway cruising. Don't want to set sport mode in iDrive for chassis only which closes the flap because I like the drivetrain mapping in sport mode. Not that I mind the pops and burbles but they're exactly the same every time, just sounds fake. Awesome car though!

Just took receipt of the 440i (rear drive only) with MPSK. Great sound and responsiveness. Does anyone now what the stock exhause might be worth to sell? Don't need an 11 foot exhaust in my garage.

MPPSK B58
It's really hard to tell from online videos what it sounds like, and nobody in my area has one installed. For comparison, would you say it sounds more like a muscle car (V8) or one of those annoying little 4-bangers with the coffee can muffler?

It's hard to compare its pretty unique in my opinion it's deep and throaty doesn't sound like a 4cyl to me or raspy at all.
