11-17 Jeep Grand Cherokee feedback wanted

Anyone here have experience with the 2011- Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Looking at picking up a loaded one (Overland, advanced electronics) with the 5.7 for around 18k with 95k on it.

Reading about it all you see is TIPMS horror stories but everyone I have talked to loves theirs.

Have you had any problems or advice on the truck?

Probably going to spring for a warranty.

TIA

Ric

Did they apply the stability control fix from the 2014 to older models?

That Moose test is sobering....Looks like it needs some rebound damping!

Bet my current Excursion would fail.

The 2014 appears to be miles better.

Cannot fathom why anyone buys Jeep, lease it but don't buy it. Appalling reliability numbers, especially under the vehicle. Makes BMW look like Lexus.

I just bought ours at lease end. 2014 Overland Hemi. I honestly can't say a bad word about it. It's now my daily driver and I couldn't be happier.

I literally laugh out loud at those who compare the Jeep unfavorably to BMW. My Jeep has been to the dealer six times since we got it and each was for an oil change. My BMW had recall after recall and completely died on my birthday with only 6k on the odo. What a joke!

The moose test was passed with flying colors by the 2014+ models.

2014 Hemi, had lots of problems. All got resolved after multiple trips to dealer. Horrible on gas. Nice otherwise

My sister's 2014 overland 4wd 5.7 has had a couple electrical gremlins. head unit totally died once (and a/c can only be controlled by touch screen) and partial failure another time.

I'd advice against an FCA car with 95K miles and that's coming from the owner of a 2014 Ram lol.

Isn't the 11+ GC based on the MB ML? With the depreciation difference, and since you're getting the warranty anyways, you can probably get the Benz for similiar pricing.

I have a 2012 as my daily "police vehicle" so it's considered "free". There is no way in hell I would have bought this for myself. Problems after problems.

One of my co-workers have a 2015 and he's had issues as well.

I had a 2014 GC SRT and loved it. It was very reliable. Only thing I hated was sub par dealer service compared to luxury brands like BMW etc. They didn't even have loaners. The dealer experience was a big part of why I sold it.

Had my 17 GC SRT for about 2 months now with roughly 3000kms on it. Options include the upgraded speakers, bigger brakes, lightweight forged wheels, and tow package.

Pros:
-Sexy little package
-17 SRTs just looks amazing to me especially in white.
-Reasonably priced
-A bit rare compared to other high performance SUVs around town
-Powerful
-Tows great so far (roughly 5500lbs enclosed trailer)
-Love the seats
-Love the 19 speaker system (best I've heard so far)
-Love the ACC
-Self parking is fun once in a while but if you want to master that, you might as well master parking yourself
-Tough to keep the white clean and in general, a hard car to wash
-Tight and responsive
-Love all the info you can access (HP, tq, all temps, 1/4 mile, braking, G's etc). Basically anything you can think of, it'll show you.
-Been great in the recent snowfalls in Vancouver
-Tranny is great with the engine

Cons:
-Not a big fan of the all season run flats
-Crashed quite hard on speed bumps
-HORRIBLE...and I must really emphasize...FUCKING HORRIBLE fuel consumption
-The 4 cylinder deactivation really gives an uncomfortable ride with mediocre returns
-NAV ain't that great
-Uncomfortable highway cruising (may be due to the combo of cylinder deactivation and run flats)
-Mediocre cargo space
-Lack of storage compartments
-Would benefit from having 360 cameras.
-No Roof rails

General Thoughts:
If I didn't need to get an SUV that my wife would daily + act as double duty for towing boats and enclosed track toys, I would never get this car. If it didn't have such shitty fuel consumption, it would totally change my outlook of this car. Overall I'm at a 7/10 with the SRT and I might just get rid of it within this year and swing a normal SUV back for the wife and get a 1/2 ton pickup for towing. Most ideal would be the new LR Discovery coming out later this year with 7 seats and a towing capacity of around 8500lbs. In the meantime, the Durango SRT (8600lbs towing capacity) seems really interesting. If I can get a straight trade for a new one when it comes out, I might give that a try before going the normal SUV+truck route.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Replies are appreciated!!

Thanks!

I am replacing a 2001 Excursion with about 190000 miles. Not looking to match the excursion towing (V10 motor) but need to be able to tow a boat, a car on a flatbed or a horse trailer.

It seems the JGC is a love hate thing...If yours is good you love it...if it is a problem child you are unhappy. And it doesn't seem to be age related. Bad ones are bad from early on.

I think I am going to look for a 2014 or later, partly because of the moose test and partly because of the ZF 8 speed.

Your input has been appreciated!!!

The numbers tell you that FCA outside of pick ups are a massive reliability concern. People will have their own experiences but any reliability index I have seen has them anchoring it.
