Torn. Please help a Newbie.
Hey Guys & Girls. I'm a long time reader and 1st time poster. So Hi
I really need your help please. I am trading my 116i M Sport Plus for either a E93 or F33 Convertible. I'm posting a duplicate thread on the F33 section of the forum too just to get both sides of the story. I've done as much research as I can but I'm still unable to decide. The E93 I've seen is cheaper by £2,640 and has more kit but the F33 looks nicer and has more modern kit. If people are interested here is the full list of kit on the E93; - Folding Mirrors - Media Package Pro - Sat Nav Pro - Enhance Bluetooth (USB & Voice) - DAB Radio - USB Audio - Cruise Control - Park Distance Control (rear only) - Headlight wash - Rain & light sensor - Xenon Headlights - Heated Seats - Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror - Automatic Air Con - Extended Interior Light Pack - Electric Front Seats Whereas the F33 has all of that (minus Electric Front Seats) and the Cruise Control has the brake function (don't think the E93 has the brake function) plus; - Heated Steering Wheel - Extended Storage - Through Load System - Wind Deflector - Air Collar - Full Black Panel Display - Comfort Pack They both have less than 20k on the clock and both are 2014 models, both manual and both have 2l Diesel engines (for economy). The F33 is £23,490 and the E93 is £20,850 but I was hoping people could let me in on how their particular vehicle is working out for them, problems, running costs, ect. Thanks a lot Guys and Girls. I hope to hear from you soon |

Electric front seats can either be pointless or a God send, depending on if two different people drive the car or not. I'm assuming by electric they're also memory? If not I'd ignore them and go for the F33, but if they are and you regularly have two people driving it I'd consider the E93 just for that convenience.

Seats
Yeah they are memory and my wife likes her 116i Sport but she'll need to use my every so often as I travel with work (out the country) a few times a year for semi lengthy periods so she'll use it maybe once a week to go to work and back.

At maybe once a week I'd probably not be worried about memory seats then and just go for the F33. It will have a newer Diesel engine that's better on fuel, the newer better iDrive system, and it will just look and feel newer.

Sorry, I was interrupted before I could write it all. I think the much more modern design of the F33 all the way. E93 looks a bit dated IMO.

I was just wondering what the consensus was about the extra £2,600. Is there 2.k worth of extra there or will I just be throwing money away? |

Well I should say mine is an e92 (2013), but thought I'd give my input anyway as it's the same engine you're looking at with the e93. Not had any problems at all, but I have just been slightly underwhelmed by the power of it.

Test Drive them, because in my opinion (albeit based on coupe versions)the E9x generation is more fun to drive, car feels lighter with more steering feedback.
This plus the benefits of electric seats (I tend to make minor adjustments to seat positions on long drives) and saving money would steer me to the older car, assuming satisfaction with condition , service history etc. I only use I Drive for navigation and the parking sensor graphic and from this perspective see the versions as equal. No ones said it, but do you need a diesel? If you did go F generation, there's a 428 petrol. Economy is excellent plus performance and it's got to be quieter which must be nicer when roof down. |

I've been in/driven many bmw 2ltr diesels and probably wouldn't have a 2ltr drop top.
IMO they're a lot more sluggish due to the extra weight involved, so not as fun to drive. However if you need it for economy then 20d would be very cheap to run fuel wise. |

If you buy the E9X model you will come to regret it; maybe not on month one, but certainly in the near future. The E90 is an old car now and is quite dated. Some models go back to 2005.
I would virtually always go for the newer model. |

I agree with this (again as someone who has a late LCI e92 320d). At the time I was also torn between an e92 or an f32, but in hindsight I kind of wish I went for either an f32 320d or an e92 with a bit more power (e.g. a 335d), which I could've gotten for only a little extra.

I went from a f generation 320d on lease to purchasing a auc 335i 2011.. Given the age of the e92 I would still have this car, probably mainly due to the engine. |

Hey Guys.
Thanks for everyone's feedback, I thought it'd be more of a 50/50 split but the F33 seems to be the better option. I'll see if I can negotiate a discount from the £23,490 to soften the blow a little. I'll keep you guys posted of the outcome. |
