ABS Unit Woes....
Got my ABS unit booked in to be sent off, repaired, re-installed and brakes bled, etc.
Dropped it off this morning, got a call by 2pm. Apparently, the unit looks like it's been out and repaired before. I've still gone for the option for it being sent off to get seen to, but I can't say that I'm not concerned that this may be the second time (although first in my ownership). I've read a good bit on here about the whole procedure, but I've never come across a unit needing to be repaired twice - the car is a late '07. Concerned that it may come back as they can't do anything. I'm quite prepared for the worst case scenario here - am I worrying unnecessarily, or is it not unusual for these parts to need maintenance more than once?

What car is it that you drive? The four pot engine cars have a repair kit from BMW that might just replace the parts (pressure sensors?) with the same parts prone to breaking again. ECU testing repair the units with uprated parts I believe and so I would be really surprised if one of those failed... There's lifetime warranty on those repairs, providing the anti tamper sticker is intact..

Thanks for that.
It's a 330i, so sadly no kit available. It's seemingly been repaired, under one of the previous owners. Should find out in a day or so if it can be fixed again..... |

How hard is it to take the ABS DSC DBC unit off?
Who did you send it off to and how much are they looking to charge you? Need to do the same to mine as its intermittently on and off.. GM |

When one is as mechanically inept as me, it's very hard!
It also means the system gets bled, etc, when refitted. Also beyond my abilities! Last edited by Redguy; 03-21-2017 at 02:44 PM.. |

It's been sent to a place in Rochester, not too far away - BBA Reman?

E90 330d SE Manual 2006/120k miles, Koni FSD/EPK, Remap, owned for 9yrs.
My ABS/DSC first failed at 100k miles. Went to ecutesting. Bleeding brakes was pita. Even with pressure bleeding and software to cycle the solenoids, still had air so had to go to dealer. Just failed again at 120k miles. Ecutesting have lifetime warranty. They didn't quibble. Repaired again at no cost but still have to remove/refit and bleed brakes multiple times. Still may have to take to dealer for bleeding to get last of air out. I guess its still much cheaper than a new unit from BMW which was £1900+VAT/fitting/coding back in 2014 |
