faulty fold in mirror

Hey all, I have an 06 330XI and the driver side mirror does not fold in or move at all when I hit the switch to do. It's also folded back a little from where it should be (I wouldn't care so much if it weren't at the wrong position). The rest of the mirror works as it should. I found code 9CD2 in the FRM module : "actuation fold in mirror driver side defective" (wow thanks I gathered that much). Sorry for the noob question but does anyone know if there is a way to test the mirror to see if it is at fault as opposed to wiring, the FRM itself, or if I'm missing something else that could be the cause? I don't mind buying a used mirror but would rather not waste the cash if there are tests to confirm.

Not sure if this would help, but here is a linky from Xoutpost. Those mirrors had some issues. The link has numerous links inside - all BMW mirrors have almost the same way of dissasembling. Maybe the internal stuff is similar.
I did that on my X5 mirrors, because they wouldn't fold, and they had the wobble. Was a relative easy fix. There are some connectors (once the mirror is open), that don't make contact (on the X5 model at least, but as I said, maybe there some similarities).

GL, and keep us posted - maybe take some pics.

Thanks! I did see some vids of disassembly but couldn't find any threads on a dead folding motor - most were just not responding properly by folding in and out or in the wrong place. Didn't find any fixes in there yet but still a few more to read. I'll pull it apart this weekend and either break it more or fix it!

This is one of the links that shows a lose connector in the mirror and subsequently stops the folding. There are more threads in that Xoutpost forum if you search. As I said the 330 mirrors might be different, but I don't think there are big changes, the parts might look different/upgraded to prevent the huge amount of folding mirror failures in the X5 e53.

My driver side shit the bed just over a year ago. I'd fix 'em with a baseball bat, but the law says I still need them.

Did it ever fold or did you buy the car like this?

Ultimately I found the prior owner snipped the wires inside because it has the issue where it doesn't know where to stop. I connected them enough to have the mirror land into the right place and left them disconnected. I'll get around to replacing or repairing it one of these days.

If there is nothing broken in the mirror drive & gears (which hopefully there is NOT since you were able to reposition it using the motor after reconnecting/jumping the (white?) wire (or did prior genius cut BOTH wires? ;-) you CAN fix it per the following link. The cause of unfolding too far, and how to fix it is covered in the link below. The spring-loaded "Locking pin" has to be freed up so that the assembly will lock in place, otherwise it "unfolds" to full-forward position:

thanks

Thanks! Never saw this fix before and didnt get back around to fixing the mirror. It looks like a much easier fix than the posts that require welding. If i can make the car run I'll be happy to have my mirror functionality back.
