Question Run flat and Non Run flat mix?

Hi. I just got my 325d m sport recently and the garage said they would replace the rear tyres as they were low.

I've just realised that they have put non RFT on the back. The fronts are RFT.

I've queried this with him and he claims it's not a problem as long as the same axis has the same type of tyre.

Is this correct? Is it a problem having a mix of non RFT at back and RFT on front?

It'd be preferable to have the same front & back, but you shouldn't have any problems with your set up, it may just not handle quite as well if your really pushing on. As your man says you shouldn't mix them on the same axle.
Just put some non RFTs on the front when yours are worn out, that is if you don't wear out the rears first

Personally I prefer non RFTs better ride & handling

Thanks, yeah I prefer non RFT myself too but was just a) a bit annoyed that he put non RFT on when he didnt make clear he was doing so and b) just concerned of having RFT at front and non RFT at rear..

But if its not going to be a safety issue then I can live with it and will just replace the fronts when needed!

I ran a similar set up when I was in process of replacing the RFT for normal tyres, the fronts had too much thread for me to just bin them so I carried on using them. Just make sure your you have got a space saver or inflation / repair kit in the boot.

The front tyres last an awful long time in these cars; mine are currently on 51k with 3mm left. Be prepared for a long wait!
