Is this water pump ?

I have carly but my phone is broken so I cannot read codes.

The car is a 2006 330i with 154k miles. I thought I had changed the water pump but I think its the original.

The car has been sitting for last few months and its pending sale. I did a full overhaul replaced all gaskets, belt/tensioner, o2 sensors, plugs, coils, filters, oil, fluids, brakes, ibs, battery, new coilovers, m3 control arms, alignment etc....ready for new owner. Only thing I didn't do was the pump as I thought BMW had done it in past.

Just put 1k miles on it and its running like brand new. Was getting 32 MPG which is awesome.

Just in my driveway a few days ago I noticed steam coming from the engine. It was raining heavy so I ignored it but wanted to make sure, I opened the engine and saw coolant pouring out of the water pump. I got a low coolant warning and turned the car off and haven't touched it since.

I had been scanning for codes for a few weeks to see any shadow codes for pump but nothing.

The car is pending sale but I want to make sure this is water pump/thermostat so I can fix it properly for the buyer....what you guys think?

Yupp, waterpump and/or thermostat. Replace both and you should be good to go. Id be happy making it to 150k on original pump. Currently 125k, and no issues yet.

Get it done now. Just had my done and it never gave me a warning. Checked out while driving home from work and had to call a tow. Funny thing is I was planning on doing it preemptively in the next few weeks. I'm at 115700

No codes stored for the water pump. Doesn't it throw a code? Could this be something else?

I got a 335 as a daily thats more fun and don't have the space or room for so many cars.

where was the coolant pouring out of exactly?.....the pump housing cracked? loose or broken hose clamp?.....unless it cracked the housing, it may just be a hose. Those little hoses that go from the pump to the thermostat have clamps...and there are 4, or 6 of them......

The coolant reservoirs crack too....

My pump just up and died after a rest stop and I got the dreaded red coolant light on the dash.....

I hear sometimes you may get symptoms like loud fans all the time, or yellow coolant lights...then BAM...the pump fails.

Are you sure it's not a hose and it's the water pump leaking? They don't typically leak they just go bad. And where exactly was it pouring coolant from? You can't really see the pump by opening the hood you have to look under the car.

If you can't use Carly how are you checking for shadow codes? With what device/software? Water pump codes won't show up on OBD scanners/software you need to see BMW codes.

If you're pressed for money just go on Facebook or Craigslist and buy the cheapest shittiest Android for $20 that works and run Carly on it. Jack it up and inspect the hoses.

You basically cannot see the pump from anywhere so post of pic of where you saw the coolant coming out, as the pump usually doesn't leak much or at all, they only fail and stop pumping, guessing your leak is the reservoir or a line.

Exactly; it's pretty much welded together. Might have two screws lol.

Just found out the pump was in fact replaced not even a year ago as was the thermostat. I was checking codes with carly.

The coolant was pouring out of a coolant expansion tank where you pour the coolant from. Low coolant warning came on.

Still haven't had time to look at the car but I looked at the video I took the day this happened looks like that blank tank is eaking or the hose attached to that tank

I got new coolant and topped it off. When I started the car some smoke came out and coolant was dripping again its the hose that connects to the reservoir pump. Also looked like the pump was leaking too.

IT does not leak when car is off, why would this be?

Anyway I guess I have to replace the whole tank/hoses
