Ashtray gauge pod

Reaching out in hopes to get a little more info before wiring up my gauges! My main question is with all of the weird BMW electronics and wiring can I simply tap into the cigarette lighter that I will be removing for my power and ground or will I have to look elsewhere? also for the backlight/dimmer can I use the wire that used to run the ashtray led or is that not hook into the dimmer? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!! If this was discussed in another area please throw a link up.

Cigarette lighter plug will have +12V, GND and illumination wire.

I have the Macht Schnell gauge panels in stock when ready:

water temp sender

Hey tom@eas one last question. what is the best location for a water temp sensor? I was hoping somewhere on the block for the fastest/most accurate readings however that is proving to be rather difficult, any suggestions? I was looking at this: Macht Schnell - H20 Gauge Boss but wouldn't that not be useful until the thermostat opened?
